I am french and had a garden in France. Never I thought that it will be possible to do it in Arizona when I started and was so surprise of the potential! Surprise to be able to produce so much different vegetables! From pepper, tomatoes, celery, green beans , butternut, zucchini, radish, lettuce, cucumbers, peas, cauliflower, potatoes, eggplants, oignon ,garlic…..I produce more that in France! In the middle of the desert 🏜 ! This it is incredible !

Great video, while I’m not in Arizona, I’m in the south Central Valley and it’s just today starting to cool down into the 90s. I applied your shade plantings and structures method this summer and it was a great help.

Angela, you said the best mulch is free and that made me curious. I work in a dog grooming shop and end up with a lot of hair in the trash. Would I be able to mulch with dog hair? There is just so much going in the trash, I'd love to use a good amount of it. Would it be a problem if the dog had been on flea and tick medication?

Interesting thought. I'm not sure. Let me know if you're able to find an answer.

I live in Glendale and took the Master Gardening course 20 yrs ago. The climate has changed a lot since then especially the last two summers. This presentation really covers the problems of gardening here…cudos to this lady! I love grow in pots, in the ground and have a small covered raised garden. Just keep at it-you’ll learn by doing! Herbs were not discussed too much and most herbs grow quite well during summer even.

I am local and would really appreciate more instruction from you on how to do apartment patio dynamics about the sorrow of losing plants to the weirdness of really hot pots and freezing in winter. I am just full of grief because in three months the freeze is going to kill my Australian fairie bushes. They are huge and lasted the summer. Help requested.

Container gardening is challenging. Use the largest containers you can and that helps with the temperature fluctations.

I live north of you in the Hualapai Valley outside of Kingman. I moved here 3 years ago and hit the ground running. One thing I can say is shade cloth and wind protection are your friends. We have raised beds, in ground beds, and high tunnel greenhouses with drip irrigation on timers. Plant as many trees and shrubs as you can to provide more protection and shade and use mulch like straw to retain moisture. Good luck!

@@WildOrchardOasisFarm Thanks! Rob built us a shade / green house. Our ground is rocky and has really thick caliche. For our fruit trees we had to bring an excavator in to dig the holes. One hole had calache 15 feet deep! We built a high tunnel. now need to frame it for the split 250 some gallon totes for the plants. I have decided to forget about spring and aim for fall and winter gardening for now. Thanks again for commenting!
