Looking good Brandon! Were I in your shoes, I'd build off the successes you're having. No need to reinvent fire. Just extend your on-contour swales and berms to the ends of your property. If you get to a particularly flat area, dig a pond right inline with the swale. Use the excavated earth to beef up your berm. You've proven that you know the 3 S's - slow the water, spread it and sink it - just going to take time to build out your system across the entire property. You can see the amount of silt you are capturing. It is significant. You are having a measurable impact on water quality all the way down the watershed. Now you need some roots in the ground. How is your prior planting doing? I believe the seed covered by straw was germinating. Is the cover crop seed for this fall planted? Looks like a good time to get it into the ground. I'm really looking forward to seeing some green 'fuzz' on the ground😊 Keep up the great work 👍

Inspiring! I guess the second half is preventing water you catch from evaporating. Deep pools present a limited surface area relative to the amount of water held, and that surface stays cool. The top quarter-inch of ground gets hot and wicks water from below, losing it. Mulch solves that until you have a tree canopy for shade. If you can't mulch the whole property, it seems better to concentrate the water into places where you can afford to manage it. But listen to experts, not me.

love the satellite map! As the ole saying goes, WE PLAN and GOD LAUGHS! its one thing in a map, its one thing when your planning but what what apparently people , not youuuuuuuu, people that watch and have never done this, is that the rain falls mainly on the plain, and then the WATER DECIDES WHICH ROUTE IT TAKES EVEN THOUGH WE MADE A NICE SWALE OR RUT FOR IT TO TAKE BECAUSEEEEEEEE it will always take the route of least resistance and sometimes just because. Your doing a great job. I recently saw Adam S talking about water harvesting and he stated that the way to get it TO RAIN IS TO PLANT MORE TREES or at very least least native grasses to cool down the surface of the earth as the rain falls it wont evaporate and attract more water...grasses act as nurse maids for the tree and shrub seeds...Have you heard of the Kalahari Melon ?

The thing is that there is no interest to stock the water like that, just because it will return to the aire, evaporation, so you los at least 30% of the water. Best thing to do it's to accumulate there organic matter, branches chopped or not, straws, leaves, trunc, etc.

Still 70% more going into the ground than before right!? We'll get to mulching and everything else soon enough!✌🏾

@@GrowTreeOrganics What you are doing is not storing water, but storing sediments, inert mineral matter, through erosion of rainwater. You lose water through evaporation, and through infiltration into the rock of the soil. The medium-term gain is zero. If you put organic matter where the sediments and collected water are, life will start, and it would be made of water that it will retain longer. You have to create soil, there it is only minerals, very little biology. In my arid region, I rely on mycorrhizal fungi; they are the ones who go and look for water deep down, in all the nooks and crannies to give it to the plants and trees.

You're just watering the junipers. Nothing much else will grow.
@GrowTreeOrganics3 ай бұрын
I beg to differ. You can look back at the beginning videos and see how much less was growing here. Proof is in the pudding!✌🏾
@YerluvinunclePete3 ай бұрын
@@GrowTreeOrganics That density of junipers is completely unnatural. You don't have much else growing in any of your videos and you won't get much more. Seriously, those were open savannahs with mixed herb/shrub/tree pockets and you have junipers a few clumps of grass here and there. Why do you think there's no vegetation to slow the water now? Overgrazing and fire suppression have choked that land into a monoculture. The junipers are established and their roots will suck the ground dry before anything else can get going. All the water you soaked into the ground is now under juniper roots and it won't help anything else.
@GrowTreeOrganics3 ай бұрын
I think it's a different story. I agree with fire and overgrazing, but the juniper have saved the landscape from more detriment and degradation than you're acknowledging. And most of these trees have been here for over 400 years, so they are natural. ranching and Agriculture has put into people's minds that all the trees need to go, which most of the studies accured on ranches or farms where the ranchers or farmers wanted these trees gone for their profession and touted how all their water came back and the wells refilled. There's no vegetation because we can see from the rain, the bare areas are places where the water sheet flows in large amounts, which contributes to less seed taking hold and anything growing. We have examples here with plenty of grass and juniper trees around them, so what you're saying or believing doesn't coincide with what I'm seeing in the field, quite the opposite. Go to Prescott national forest and let me know how all that grass is growing amongst the monoculture of juniper there and why just down the road from me where there are no juniper trees, why isn't any grass whatsoever growing there?.... ✌🏾
@YerluvinunclePete3 ай бұрын
@@GrowTreeOrganics No, dude. The juniper monoculture is why you have zero organic matter in the soil. The junipers haven't saved shit. They are the problem. There is more to restoration than slowing water down. You need to understand the whole ecology of the land.
@GrowTreeOrganics3 ай бұрын
Actually the juniper is the only thing creating organic matter out here. You've come to the table with zero evidence to back your claims, let alone know exactly what my property looks like. You're basically back seat driving and getting mad because I'm disagreeing with your opinion.

This is a stupid way the top soil is already eroded so your pools should be about 3 feet diep

@GrowTreeOrganics if so diep you will have water during the whole year animals will use it as drink pond they will dump organic materials, nutrition for the depleted soil food for seeds that birds the drops, each seedling will bind a small peace off the top soil etc etc.....

@zenerdorsten953 naturally of course! We will do many ponds, but past videos will show you the other water catchment points! This project is far from being done! ✌🏾
