Keep in mind that the 6.5 Creedmore is not based on the 308Win/7.62 NATO case. Rather it is closer to the 250Savage (or 22/250) Ackley Improved (Hornady claims it's from the 30 TC cartridge but look at the SAAMI case drawings) necked up to 6.5 or down to 6mm (6mm Creedmore). It has less case taper than the 308Win and a shorter rim to shoulder junction and a steeper shoulder angle.When stacked in a larger capacity magazine, it would need less mag body curvature. The 25 round P-Mag must have caused binding because of this difference in case taper.

I was asking to better understand the mag-related malfunction issue in another comment. Can you explain more in detail what exactly is the nature of the problem? Is it the different case shoulder on a 6.5 Crdm. not feeding right from mag. feed-lips designed for the .308 case? I.e., would slightly redesigned 6.5-specific mags solve this?
@RichardCasto4 жыл бұрын
I am also curious as to this comment as well. My perception is that it can be more about difficulties in taking something that was maybe optimized for 308 and then expecting 6.5CM to drop in without any adjustment or changes. For example running a 6.5CM in a large frame AR, you will find that tweaks to things like buffer weight, buffer spring, gas system (more than just gas block adjustments) may be needed. But once done, the guns will run fine. None of that (to me) is related to cartridge geometry. The largest geometry issue is the longer bullets that are commonly used and potential desire to handload them to an OAL that is not compatible with magazines designed with 308 in mind. So you may end up picking a shorter OAL that is not ideal for accuracy, but is more suited toward feeding reliability. I expect all factory 6.5CM ammo is at an OAL that this should not result in magazine issues. Given what Desert Tech is doing, I am not surprised that the gun is not 100% when using different cartridge combinations. Especially given such as complex feed/ejection system. Guns designed for a single cartridge can be optimized for that cartridge.

It just makes me pull out a Mosin to share the blast with them.

Just got a MDRX in. 308 with a 5.56 conversion kit (side eject) inbound. Very surprised with recoil from 308 vs my SCAR17 definitely more but not as bad as I've online.

Seems like it would make a pretty good home defence rifle in 5.56 with a suppressor.

Give us accuracy tests. Is desert tech going to release 24"-26" 6.5 Creedmoor barrel?

I just want to say thank you for being honest and forthcoming with information on all aspects considered. I own a 1-6 ACSS and have found it to be adequate. I'm wondering if putting a other 2X into the same optic has made the platform " less useful".

Walmart (if you can stomach the idea of buying ammo from them) sometimes has 60rd boxes of Winchester 6.5mm 125 grain for approximately 40-45$. Not exactly pre Coof 5.56 prices but it does make those 6.5 pews hurt the wallet a bit less.
@zoomzoom39504 жыл бұрын
Good review. It seems Desert Tech is getting through their old issues; cost is close to the Tavor X95. I think of 6.5 Creedmoor as long range round, what is the barrel length? I also like bullpups, I have 5.56 and 7.62 NATO bullpups. This is on my list, but so is the MRAD given the various long range calibers available. Looking forward to your MDR 6.5 long range video.

What's this about an ammunition shortage (sorry for being late to the party)? I assume production has just slowed considerably as the factories have implemented changes to halt/reduce odds of transmission, or has there been a glut of purchases recently?
@InrangeTv4 жыл бұрын
Social panic attacks and people who don't know how to use a gun buying them en masse and consuming ammunition in the process, along with apocalypse hoarding. Essentially a worse version of the endless cycle we've been in since 2008.

Hi Karl. In this video you said that this rifle is one of the best bullpup rifles. I am from Croatia. I would love to hear your opinion on the Croatian rifle (HS product) VHS 2. I hope you will make a video about this rifle one day. Maybe even comparison video .

It's interesting to see tho how sensitive the MDR was to overgasing. Any guesses as to why that is? My guess is that the bolt travel is too short for the longer cartridges and more gas means the bolt bounces back too soon.

Steyr aug with corvus brass deflector is better. You can id malfunctions, shoot from both shoulders, and it’s incredibly accurate

A taller scope mount will do wonders for you ability to get your eye aligned with a not so friendly eyebox. It's difficult to convince people that need to get the scope as close to the bore is counter productive most of the time and definitely a no no with a bullpup. I love the 6.5 bullpup concept; great video.

@@M0torsagmannen well I myself have a weird fascination with culty stuff since my childhood. My mom dug a lot of esoteric things, ive spent my teens amongst a bunch of quasi-religious fellows, reading the soft-cover literature they release. i smelled bullshit right away, but now i get a nostalgic/aesthetic feel when i interface with stuff like that. also my gf is an ex-cult member :)) the humorous moment with havens gate for me is that i am a sorta-webdesigner, and they got their cash by designing for early web. Here though i feel strong Waco vibes since its a similar cultural layer somewhat ( at least for me living in eastern europe) by the way check out waco-themed songs "1969 in the sunshine" and "in a beauteful place out in the country " by boards of canada - both of them feature some branch davidian references

I see the latest MDR (per the Desert Tech website) has an optional, reversible (left or right) side (not forward) ejection. Ian should be thrilled! It's less expensive and simpler. What could be better than this. BTW, if this was chambered in .260 Rem, the 25 round P-Mags WOULD work since the 260 is, simply, the 7.62 NATO/.308Win. necked down; same body taper & rim to shoulder dimensions. Perhaps that barrel is also forthcoming? Also a 243 Win. w/ 1:7" twist? Or 6mm Creedmore?
@moosemaimer4 жыл бұрын
I have the 1-6x version of that optic, and while I originally had it on that same mount, I found it was much easier to use with the cantilevered mount that holds it further forward.
@azilla044 жыл бұрын
By geometry they mean they made it wrong.. Yeah regular .308 Pmags are really short. Magpul had to make a special 25 rd. Pmag for M118LR which has a COAL of 2.82+. I measured a Lancer L7 @ 2.84 and an ASC @ 2.86.

This is what bullpups are for! Full rifle length barrels in a short carbine size. There's an ergonomically optimal overall length range somewhere near 30 inches or so. In a standard rifle, you only get that in a collapsed carbine or an SBR, and then your ability to not only hit but also have acceptable terminal performance at ranges beyond even 200m for some cartridges is unacceptable. This is where the bullpup shines. It gives one full capability at required infantry engagement ranges while also being very easy to carry for long periods of time, have the rifle shouldered for long periods of time, move through buildings unimpeded by length, move through woods without getting your rifle snagged on vegetation due to length, and be good for mechanized/motorized roles. Having a carbine barrel length or shorter in a bullpup for CQBs sake kinda takes away the point. If it really needs to be that short, plenty of standard configed rifles with cartridges like 7.62x39/6.8/6.5 Gren/.300 BLK and a short barrel are plenty adequate. However, a carbine length barrel for being a suppressor host is a different story as you Karl have shown that to be a good reason in previous videos. Glad you're finding this bullpup superb and optimal in this setup and standing with/beating 5.56 AR's so readily. Karl, have you ever taken a look at the K&M M17S? Specifically in 308? With it's 3.5lb crisp competition trigger, great balance, and low recoil for a .308, it eliminates the remaining "inherent" issues with bullpups that no other bullpup has really done. It doesn't have nearly the same support and flexibility of many rifles such as the MDR, but with some improvements, it could contend with the MDR and beat it in someways at the very least. It'd be cool to see you do a video on it, and mud test it too!

This exact setup would probably be a better "scout" gun than 90% of the "scout" guns out there lol

The MDR is almost the perfect bullpup but it isnt there yet. It has minor problems that I havent had in 1.5k rounds of my m16a1 retro. At $2k asking price, MDR should at least match the consistency of $1000 ARs. Thats why I havent jumped at the MDR with a credit card.
@godfroi109914 жыл бұрын
I have to humbly disagree, I think the best Bullpup in 5.56 currently on the market is the Lithgow Arms F90. Its modular design allows you to switch configurations on the fly, plus the Australian Army has put it through the ringer and it's survived the Grunts abuse. Just my opinion, and I'd say things will be different when chambered in 6.5...
@thomassmith74514 жыл бұрын
Which of the 1-8 scopes did you get? they make a couple. First focal or second? I ask because I have the 1-6 First focal with the 5.56/.308 reticle on my 6.5 Grendel and love it. On the other hand I'm always interested in better optics (that I can afford).
@009013M34 жыл бұрын
I have a couple generations older Primary Arms 1-8x24 on my CETME right now. For the price you can't do better, BUT it has to be said there's not much else in that price range. You either undercut it a little bit and definitely feel the drop in quality, or you've gotta double what you spent or more. The eyebox issue is real though, and it is *rough*.
