From looking at various fittings on the Wolf, Chris, its clear it was a FFR (fitted for radio) model. The Dexian bracket on the internal roll cage behind you seat was where the radios mounted. The rack between the two seats up front was to hold your two L85 bull-pup rifles. That roof and side lining did serve as insulation but was primarly non-ionizing radiation protection for the operators sitting in the back. They were between the two antennas mounted on those flat plates on the front wings (fenders) and the other two mounted on the brackets halfway down the sides. With four Bowman transceivers putting out lots of power from those antennae it was a "health & safety" item. Good to see you enjoying a Wolf and I hope someone turns it into an overlander. I did with a 110 Tithonus Defender and its very capable and great fun.

You're both not wrong. FFR and it is uprated, all except the clutch. There's a lot of weight with amps, pre-post selectors etc. The clutches fail, so Id check the maintenance. On maintenance, ironically, they used to be over serviced if anything. (Except the clutch!) The chassis condition is promising, suggests it was potentially army, rather strapped to a ship for the royal marines. I was thinking air force but the steering wheel is too worn for moisturised RAF hands. Hope you enjoy.

Chris - Love the video! Loved it so much, I flew to Tucson met with the fine folks at Sonoran Rovers and bought this little beauty and will be bringing her back to TX. I cannot appreciate this collaboration more - THIS is how Defenders should be showcased. Photos, videos and channel soon! And if you are in the market for a Defender, Marcus at Sonoran Rovers is first class - no one better in the business to partner with. Keep on, keepin' on!

This was awesome! I talked to the gentleman at Sonoran Rovers ( I don’t recall his name) on the phone about 3 months ago. He told me about this Wolf and that it would be available in December. It is truly a beast and extremely capable! The cost to get it carb certified here in California made it cost prohibitive for me. ( $10,000 to $12,000 above the cost of the vehicle ) California politics sucks!☹️ In October I found a 1966 Series 2A here in the Central Valley, that is now sitting next to my Jeep JKU in the garage as I type this. Very cool to actually see this Wolf. Loved the video.👍

The roof liner is Rad-Haz to protect users when radios were in use on the vehicle. The doors are missing their door inner skin panels. Convoy activates a light on the rear diff only. You are missing your headlight guards and second 24v alternator. You are lucky it has had the Remus upgrade with front roll cage and sound matting. Nice Wolf 110.

Absolute workhorse off-road these beasts. I used to drive 110 Landrovers for my work as a rural estate manager in the UK and Germany. Tough as old boots, rough and agricultural, great vehicle, but pretty uncomfortable for someone that’s 6’5” tall.

Just be aware that a few years back there was a bad batch of those tires made in India that got red flagged by the MOD across all branches of the British armed forces. They would split and fall apart. Never stick the spare wheel on the bonnet. The wolf rim is heavier than a standard land rover alloy and will end up cracking the injectors . Enjoy its a great rover and got me through Iraq in 2004.

It is a British army truck, yet it has the steering on the left side. It would be interesting to know if the truck maybe was stationed on Europe's mainland eg with the Rhine army, and for convenience reasons they might have changed the steering from right to left....

Likely yes. Germany or Cyprus. If he can supply the VRN from the seatbox I can tell you where it was.
@stonemarten1400 Жыл бұрын
The Landrover 110s we used for the estate management of the British Forces’ training areas in Germany were left-hand drive, so I wouldn’t be surprised if at least some of the military landrovers of the former British Army of the Rhine (BAOR) were also left-hand drive. Now the British Army has mostly left Germany, such vehicles would have been sold as military surplus.
@TheSussexpillbox Жыл бұрын
@@stonemarten1400 They're coming back in force now. Still plenty of LHD Wolf 110s in service. Only the 90s have beeb sold off. Wolf is extended until 2029 for service as they've no replacement.

@@TheSussexpillbox Fond memories of some pretty hardcore off-roading with our Landrover 110s around the training areas in Germany, where tanks had churned the mud and sand to two or three feet deep. Best to gun them hard, flying along with foot to the floor, keeping momentum, but without totally frying the clutch - oh happy days!
