Nice Chollas around the 21:00 mark when DT is talking about his boots. He knows how dangerous they can be. Barbs on the golden yellow spines hook into flesh and find a stick or knife to try to pry them loose. I found out the hard way. Mojave Desert area here.

When exploring areas that have mice or rat 🐀 droppings wear a mask with cartridge filters. Droppings and dust could cause serious health issues including hantavirus. Then change your clothes and wash up before climbing back into your vehicle.🚗 .Also carry a stick to turn over items for scorpions and snakes. 🐍 When I was younger I enjoyed exploring the Desert. Although not stated, I presume the old timers were mining gold - nothing else would be valuable enough to warrant all the time and effort...but how on earth (or under it!) did they know where to start? Or which way to tunnel: were they following seams? And why is there no machinery on the surface? The rock would have had to be crushed and separated, both of which require water.
