If you weren't aware because it only pops up in a tip once randomly and then never again, if you select a belt section and press the "i" key it'll clear it of any shapes on it, probably better than cut/pasting entire production lines. If you want to clear the whole production line, select a belt connected to it, press O to select any connected belt, then press I to clear.

In the menu that pops up on the right-hand side when objects are selected, you can use the sweeping brush icon to clear the belts etc too. Also the connected tool allows you to highlight all connected belts and buildings, right click an object for that side menu with that icon too. 👍

Considering how cramped later modules get, using the swapper to be able to combine things using only a single logistics layer is absolutely massive. Thanks for that tip. Edit: the challenge for me is not only building something functional, but getting as many of that module as possible to process as many full belts as possible per foundation

when you need to move a blueprint one tile, I noticed earlier when you were demonstrating the blueprints, undo refunds the blueprint points. So, instead of paste, cut, then paste again, causing to spend double points, use undo for the first paste and you are refunded the blueprint points, thus only costing you blueprint points once.
@prisonbread2 ай бұрын
Nilaus, at one point when you were troubleshooting the backing up "hopper" things in the nice square module you cut and paste the whole module to clear the belts which I assume costs blueprint points - remember you can shift-select over an area and hit the "I" key to clear all belts/machines. Probably quicker and cheaper way to do it. Anyhow, loving this series!

If you want to delete a complete line of belts and buildings you can click a belt or building and press O (not zero but o Like OK) this selects all belts and buildings of this line, the press X tot delete all of this line, saves a lot of time when cleaning up

Very cool to see the swapper in action! Bought the game yesterday and played until milestone 4. Already designed my first modular platform blueprints (e.g. stack on self, stack N on W input, rotate 90 clockwise/counterclockwise, rotate 180, and similar for cutting, I even have a platform for cutting out the NW corner of the input). I'm currently a little bit stuck on designing a painter platform (i.e. one input is the paint, another the shape, and the platform should paint all 4 belts, and it's a horribly spaghetti and requires lot's of space). So looking forward to what designs Nilaus will come up with!

@redzeckx2 ай бұрын
So the module you made though compact and amazing the belts will never work at 100% speed always because the rotators are slowing it down. It might almost look full or be at 99% forever but rotators need to be in pairs to get 100% through put. It's a compact module but you have to combine and Separate the belts in other ways to get them to be full. Also the cutter can go down to 2 of them because 4 belts come out of it.
@WesselB28 күн бұрын
But the rotator is placed behind a cutter, and the cutter has a slower throughput than the rotator, correct? So how can the rotator be limiting in this scenario? Sorry if I am missing something obvious.

You can still progress on the secondary objectives even whe ahead in the milestones and later reasearch will take a lot of time, so ending all the secondaries now can give you waiting a lot with nothing to do

so i bought this game and steam play time is 12.6 hours, but i am starting to find it hard to feel excited to continue this game even though i really want myself to, so i am making this comment and hopefully someone can give me some ideas as to why i feel this way and maybe i am doing something wrong that makes me feel this way. first of all i love factorio. as for shapez 2, the first few hours was pure bliss, i didnt have to worry about electricity or rebuilding stuff taking ages, i could just focus on building the factory i want, i would also say this game has better building mechanics than factorio, but after a while i realised that this game seems to resemble a puzzle game way more than a "factory" game, because everything i built eventually became useless because the vortex no longer requires that shape so i just destroy my design, and unless i go full modular, it seems like basically none of my designs are reusable, this makes me feel like my 12th hour playing is too similar to my 1st hour playing, i am back at square one trying to solve the next shape and nothing i did before that mattered anymore. i think i enjoyed the ability to sometimes sit back and feel acomplished looking at my factory in factorio and i dont think i can do that in shapez 2 unless i never delete anything and keep sending shapes the vortex doesnt need. any contructive reply is welcome

37:24 It's a really cool looking module, but note that output belt isn't full. So, it doesn't seem to work at max speed even after copy/paste trick. Not sure what is the bottleneck, though.
@Slize17072 ай бұрын
To me it looks like the problem is the jumping part. The jumping half has to wait for the other half to get through the cutting/rotating proces. And that's why it is waiting to get launched.
@MisuVir2 ай бұрын
@@Slize1707 Yep, that was my thought too. It's a very neat/compact design but it's unbalanced in that the splitter's right piece skips most of the processing. So you end up with it queuing and waiting for the left side to process.
@guy73292 ай бұрын
@@MisuVir Basically the part that's jumping doesn't have enough space for shapes for the second half to reach the last swapper BEFORE the cutter stops completely because of the right side being full

Or the other way around. I love the theory, inventing designs and optimizing stuff, but have no interest in executing them When you see a shape, pause the video, think about a possible solution, think about if you can optimize it, and then compare it with his solution. Or don't pause and just enjoy his sleek designs.
@Buphido2 ай бұрын
Why didn't you create the circle-with-edge/quare-with-curve square just using two swappers? Step 1.: Swap Circle and Square to create left-circle-right-square and left-square-right-circle. Step 2.: Rotate left-circle-right-square to top-square-bottom-circle. Step 3.: Swap top-square-bottom-circle and left-square-right-circle. Your outputs are now square-circle-circle-circle and square-square-square-circle, each in reading order.

2:10 Efficient vs effective My family splits hairs on the definition of terms ALL the time. Nobody likes the arguments, it’s just an excuse to take sides in a popularity contest. The ones that insist on being victims feel victimized, the ones that insist on winning find a way to feel like they’ve won. The reality here is that the words in isolation without context are synonyms, and that you have different goals than the people in the comments section. You’re being both efficient and effective in the execution of YOUR goals. And they think you are being neither efficient, nor effective in the execution of THEIR goals. Both statements are true. So you’re not getting triggered about words so much as what you feel a player should value in game play. Nobody wrote down that efficient applies only to game progression or shape part utilization. Your point there was wasted air, but more importantly, it alienates the people that insist on splitting g hairs for the definition of terms.
@Thyana-ig5no2 ай бұрын
Efficient and effective were never synonyms. Never argue about definitions, give them a dictionary imo. Effective means, how can i optimize towards output Efficient means, how can i work best with existing, limited ressources (here: input, space, building time, blueprint costs). You could also try to be efficient here about building costs or about assembly times, but these don't matter here. In general, if you have more than enough of a specific ressource, you should not use other ressources to try to be efficient about it.
@danielh.90102 ай бұрын
@@Thyana-ig5no Yes, exactly! The difference might appear to be subtle to some, but it's definitely there. Effective = get's the job done with little effort, and efficient = resource-optimized (i.e. nothing wasted).

When you put the swapper down and say you'll try to explain how it works, you start off by saying it "swaps half of it in from either" and then the description gets harder to follow because your explanation is "and then if I do that and .. that" (while dropping new pieces on the board - it's not the best 'explanation'. Your builds are impressive I realise you're used to the building techniques in this (and other games) so it's all second nature to you, but when you say you'll explain how something works, and the explanation is "i do that and that" while quickly dropping pieces on the board, it doesn't really explain much and could be a lot clearer. I hope this is taken as genuine feedback as I'm not trying to troll etc.

It’s a different sort of challenge. It more laid back. Some of us have 1000s of hours in factorio already, it’s something different that scratches the same itch, no biters, factorio is hardly worth playing right now with the dlc just around the corner. Maybe people just don’t like factorio.. there are tons of reasons to play this. You don’t have to though as long as somewhere a factory is growing
@Comqr2 ай бұрын
This gets MUCH bigger then factorio, and i LOVE factorio, it is a survival factory builder, theres biters, and dangers, and power grids. shapez is RAW factory builder. nothing but building factories, and its way more logic intensive later on in the game, i mean full on logic gates to build computers that automatically design the needed shape. they're both rly fun
