This was a wonderful interview. As someone who is discovering Savage Worlds just now, I'm amazed at the amount of cool stuff the community has done.

Thank you Garry and Manuel! This was a very informative interview, as I have found many to be so on Dieku. As a variably active member of the Savage Community, I have been under variable degrees of pressure to publish my own work, as it is quite popular on the convention circuit, particularly in Colorado, whence I came. Manuel's experience gives me some encouragement in this regard, and I appreciate that. I would like to add that the Savage Community is outstanding. For any new viewers/listeners, you will benefit a great deal from involving yourself with the community, whether on Discord, the PEG forums, Reddit, or even here on KZbin. Excellent and admirable people in general, and the Pinnacle team in particular are Good People, as they say in the Old Country. Thank you both for sharing!

I've had this setting in my head for years and I'm looking for the best system or at least base one which to build it up. That video was very useful and interesting.

I wonder if Shadowrun 6e flopping was also a driving factor in sprawlrunner's success

In German, do you read it as "the ku?"

I stole the idea for an interactive menu from Sprawlrunners and Titan Effect. 😆 Great interview!

I feel like term generic is being misinterpreted here as if it means "an inferior copy" when it actually means "lacking an identity", which is what you describe when you say you take the rulebook to create the game world and texture you want to play with
@cetiahАй бұрын
There use of the word generic isn't meant to imply meaning "inferior" at all. What he means by generic is that you have one solution that can be used in many different ways. You play the same game with the same rules for a Shadowrun game, for a Runescape game, for a Men in Black game, for a Star Trek game, etc. His point about Savage Worlds not being a generic setting is that you shouldn't play with Savage Worlds as-is and expect it to work -- it's a toolbox that has to be modified, with your own creativity and rules-tweaking -- you literally invent new rules and such. So it's not so much that it's a generic system you can use for everything, as that it's a terrific starting piece from which to build the perfect rules for the game you want to play. It's less of a complete, adaptable rules system and more of the skeleton of a system that contains about 70% of the work done and the rest you should build on your own. You don't have to. But in this video, he's arguing that's how Savage Worlds should ideally be used. The reason he takes that "negative" tone of voice when describing the game as generic is because many of us have tried generic systems, or systems that we thought could work as generic systems, and tried to shoehorn other settings in only to find it didn't fit very well, so generic systems have a little bit of a negative connotation -- especially if you're the kind of rules-tweaker that would be interested in tweaking and focusing a game system in the way he's describing.

Great interview and inspiring info on design However The Swad use of playing cards for initiative is a serious issue for myself It’s thematically great for deadlands…. However Say, Middle Earth? Why would a group have their attention distracted every combat round out of ME… into modern day culture of playing cards😐 Seriously Further the use of the term Spirt for a catch all for mental aspects… 🤔 That term is so open to confusion and bleeds off thematic punch to really capture a mental capacity and potential For example Symbaroum’s use of Vigilance, as a core attribute, is so powerful and resonates with dramatic tension Spirt is of an ‘ethereal’, association …. Then there is the term bennies It’s an American slang term for … bonus… or benefits… ? again that word is going to be constantly used in the game and in my opinion it’s not thematic Why not use the impactful term: Momentum 😎 Having momentum as a resource in an action game is a constant reality that everyone understands viscerally Language at the table should always help the setting thematically…
