@@leonbroekx It's a massive project for sure, at the same time you also need to have a life outside of the boat-build. If not you'd be jeopardizing not just your relationship but your health, you could easily burn out during a project like this if you don't pace yourself and allow yourself to do other things in-between to help recharge.

The boat is anything but a cookie-cutter design. It looks like an ingenious interpretation of a Dashew yacht. That makes it a very exciting project to follow through the build and sea trials and following explorations. Thanks for having us along.

Designing my long wheel base camper van conversion I had a similar dance with ergonomics, equipment sizes, practicality, flow and material availability. The planning stage of any build is important but not as sacred as one might think. Things chance as the build progresses, new insights, new ideas and other ways of thinking, a change of heart of the significant other throw spanners in the works to various degrees. The process is enjoyable though for the most part, although some things get done twice... and some even more times. But you know the saying: "We did it right because we did it twice."

❤Ok. I just watched a video do we need a bigger boat- kraken 50 review. There were interesting design tweaks he made the bow part more v like so I think to reduce pounding. Then he added a solid steel piece to the front of the rudder so orcas cannot bite it off then there were chain plates made of steel so real strong and then his keel design with the lead at the bottom. Then all the interior walls💕💕were made from foam covered in fiberglass. I think you would enjoy it an outdoor and indoor cockpit. Anyway sure you will get more out of it than I did. Take care of your wife and family. Best wishes for your happiness. Let me know how you like it.

Saw the layout of a Beneteau 48 sleeps 10. If you put the sink in the center and tables and benches that fold down to a Queen sized bed you could sleep 4 more on each side of the sink. They say best place for the sink is in the middle of your boat. Maybe can shimmy up the pole for your indoor cockpit. Lol 😂 apparent bow and stern beds can go up and down 7 feet the center beds are the best. What do you think?Snug is good when you are sailing as you will not roll off onto the floor. I do not know how to attach the picture otherwise I would have. Has 3 baths too. Wow.

Great explanation of your design philosophy . Your boat, your design and it looks like your sailing experience is of great influence in that regard. The watertight rudder compartment is an excellent idea as quite a few boats have sunk due to rudder failures. I am shocked not more boats have that to be honest.. Then again, many boats are glorified marina queens and not blue water boats by design.

Few of us will ever get to personalize the design of a boat specifically for our family. This is a tremendous opportunity for you. It’s fun for the rest of us to watch it evolve. I am curious how this time spent boat building will impact your future sailing adventures. I’d be very surprised if once the boat is done and ready to sail if you’ll sell the house and move onto the boat full time as before. You’ve established some roots on land, Vera is growing up and will have her own routines and her own friends. I can’t imagine forsaking all that for the nomadic lifestyle you once enjoyed. I’m looking forward to what your land/sea hybrid lifestyle will be. Of course that’s years down the road and you have lots more glassing, fairing and sanding to do before then. :-)

That interior plan looks very functional and comfortable. One thing we did on many Hinckley interiors was to use large radius - (about 35 cm) - laminated bulkheads on interior corners. The forward inboard corner of the master head compartment looks like it might benefit from one of these. It's remarkable how much the feeling of space increases by knocking off a square-ish corner where it's not needed.

From what I've read of the Orca attacks a very good idea for the rudder to be behind a bulkhead or enclosed so that it doesn't sink the boat.
@ChuckScheaffer3 ай бұрын
Smart decisions as expected from this very smart couple. One thing to consider is the flat bottom. It creates a rather flat bilge and water tends to get stuck in the low recesses away from any sump. My sailboat has some areas that collect water, so I wet vac them occassionaly to prevent odors. A central vac that can handle water would make a very useful tool for this job as well as make normal cleaning easier. Garage type wet vacs have large motors and small tanks and take up very little room.
