Yes to drapes! I have wooden blinds all throughout my home. I love the look but do have to clean them periodically because the surface provides a place for dust to settle. Great content! 👍🏼😊

Love this. Love the clean lines of roller blinds. In Australia we have double blinds with one sheer, one block out as part of a seamless set. Could you tell us how you would shade a sliding door if the windows had roller blinds please?

👋🏻 🐥 Love wooden blinds. Blinds really helped in the Southwest and Southeast US to control heat in the summer. They were a less expensive version of Plantation Shutters. They were a great invention and really helped prior to the widespread availability of AC.

And I feel that plantation shutters really close off the view and the light!

@@Designchickee I agree. They are effective in keeping out heat, but they really block the view.

I am always so glad to see your face and watch your videos, Olga. My window treatment love is the Roman shade. They aren’t difficult to make if you sew. Story time: When I was at uni, an art student painted an octopus on my friend’s vinyl roller shade in her apartment. She took it with her and framed it when she moved.

Yes to drapes, too. If your home has two windows side by side with an inch of drywall in-between, is it best to use a venetian blind on each or one over both. Then what about the drapery? Thanks for sharing your expertise!

Hi Olga, great video as always! I am looking to replace a blind in my master bathroom. Currently I have a blind that is white and has plastic slats. I am looking to upgrade the look. I need privacy, but would like some translucence. My major concern is dealing with moisture/humidity as the window does not open up. In addition, I use hairspray and it tends to make my doorknobs sticky so I feel I would need something I can clean! Thank you very much! Yes to drapes!🙂

My Design Dilemma: Dark floors vs Light floors. For example, I LOVE dark walnut floors, but I also love a wooden slats ceiling or painted ceiling. Can I get away with two dark surfaces: floor and ceiling? Or keep one a lighter shade? Also I love colored kitchen cabinets, but are pale neutral cabinets best for dark kitchen floors?

Yes to drapes! I noted you did not cover plantation blinds, do you think they are outdated?

I think plantation blinds or shutters close off the window too much. You lose a lot of the view as well as the light. Thanks for your question!

Hi there, I have recently installed custom cordless (they are not motorized) blinds in our new construction house. The problem is the windows set at 8ft and I cannot comfortably reach the blinds to pull them up or down. Would you have any hacks, ideas on how I can attach a chain/string after the fact. I got them from Lowe’s installer says I can attach chain now. But I’m sure there is a creative solution. Maybe a pull down clasp with a string? Let let me know? Thank you! 🙏

Your video as well as others never ask ; what is the problem you are trying to solve? Is it light control? Privacy? UV protection? It’s great to explain the products but without having a clear understanding of the needs in each space you are like the person who went to the doctor and said just give me a bunch of drugs that I can try until something works. Unfortunately too many people buy products not understanding what they are designed to solve. Different window coverings are designed to solve different problems. Louvered products like wood blinds are designed to be in the window all the time. They are not a product that is designed to be raised and lowered because they are heavy awkward and the cords will wear out very quickly. Conversely roller shades and cellular shades are designed to roll up or fold up to clear the window area when not being used.

Hello Olga!Yes to drapes! Here in Greece Europe we use curtains the most!I don't know why we don't use blinds or romans...And we clean them twice a year, before Christmas and before Easter, so the house looks clean during the holidays...
