I would love a video on hanging family photos: rules for framing, grouping, and hanging so that they don’t look disoriented. Also the ideal areas for hanging these photos and the areas to avoid. Seams most individuals hang them along the wall leading up against the stairs. Thank you and YES to hearing your personal rules.

Really glad to hear there are no rules on color of artwork. I’ve always stressed so much about things coordinating perfectly. I have so many sentimental items stored away because they”didn’t match”. Since moving into my New home, I’ve decided to hang it because I love it.

Superb advice! I’m about to move to an 1859 home with 11 foot ceiling and a high picture rail - how would you advise to use a picture rail for optimal hanging of artwork?

Fabulous! Thank you. But how about a 4-piece grouping over a toilet, on the narrow focal wall entering a bathroom? Must they be tiny? I’ve just bought 11” x 14” prints, as 8” x 10” were unavailable, and 5” x 8” would have been unframed and too small. Yikes! Have I made a terrible mistake? It really needed a focal point…

What if I have one large oil painting that takes up 2/3 of my couch, but want to put two other medium size oil paintings on either side of the centered large oil painting? It would as a collective overlap the length of my couch. I have a really big wall behind my couch and wanted to fill it up with oil paintings.

What do you do when you want to put an artpiece over a low credenza but having it 6-8inch above it makes the artpiece way below eye level? Do you priorise the 6-8 inch gap or the eyelevel height?

yes, to atypical artwork displays. for example, I have a small wall with a single chair and a short couch on it. I am hanging the art I like (white, garden themed) to blend with each piece. the wall seams to work. Me: without natural talent when it comes to fashion, decor, etc.

My question is about hanging art: How to measure the place for the nail (length of nail), so the frame is straight and each piece is in the correct relation to the other pieces? Do you have any suggestions of what I can use other than standard nails?

Re:straight frames, I add steel wire to back of all my pieces so they are easier to adjust to level.
