I was picking in an upscale neighborhood and was watching these two girls picking through stuff and noticed they both were standing on a pile of coats. After about ten minutes two guys come up and they to were trampling this pile of coats. Then about a half hour later they leave, so i go over and pick up after them. When I get to the pile of coats I found 2 long leather coats and 6 leather jackets under the other coats. They were all muddy from being trampled but something told me to take them. Later that night my gal comes over and informs me I must have at least 5 thousand dollars in designer leather jackets. I almost passed out

I know it was hard to see, it when I was pulling the box out I noticed it was broken and starting to fall apart. I was worried it would’ve made a mess if I would’ve pulled the box out. I hated to leave it.

Love that you are kindhearted enough to donate clothing and shoes. Those people who say you should sell everything are greedy. I don’t pick but when I clean out closets or get rid of household items I donate to a church run thrift store. The church makes a little money which they use to help needy folks and someone gets items at a good price.

By the way I noticed, the glass on the lantern is very old. It has running lines within the glass. They don't make glass like that anymore. Adding the fact of the heavy weight, I think you found yourself a real antic one.

I used to do the same as you. Gather what I could and donate the clothes. One day my gal was going through the clothing and told me I'm not right donating that stuff, then to prove her point she said she could make more money on just my donations than I make between picking and recycling. We gave it three months. What a mistake! She doubled my earnings. She was getting fifty dollars for a pair of shoes, a hundred dollars for a leather jacket WHAT!! On one pick I earned a thousand dollars on clothes

I know there’s money in clothes. I work full time plus go picking , plus stock, price and inventory the antique booth, plus make the videos every week. It’s too much. Iris helps where she can but you need to be able to do this full time to sell more

Have you ever checked with battered women's centers or homeless shelters? Some churches also run free stores and keep clothing and home goods to give to people that may have lost their homes to floods or fires and other natural disasters. Just a thought . Thanks for rescuing those items from landfills. It's a shame people don't donate. Some places even go to your house to pick items up. I believe the VA in some areas does that.

I have looked into these type of shelters. Unfortunately when I have had stuff to donate they were either not accepting donations at the time or only accept donations certain days of the week. But the places I donate to are great local causes.
