In this episode I put my new HP Twin Fin template design through the paces in my a few of my favorite boards.

Noel these fins are a game changer! I was literally going to sell a board on Craigslist thinking it wasn’t for me. I put these fins in and the board came alive. The fins had amazing drive and hold but released so well when I wanted them to. By far the best twins I’ve ever tried. So ex opted to try them in my other boards now. 🤙

took these fins out for a spin today on my flat earth. i've been running AMKs for the last 4 months on this board, and these HP twins really put some spice into the board! these fins definitely make it easier for me to go rail to rail, and its just easier to throw the board around compared to the amks. its not at all skatey - always in control but you can slide out the tail if you want. great fin and i am glad i ordered them! i am 5'11 @ 195lbs so these HP twins will work for us bigger guys.

Hey Noel, just want to say that I really enjoy watching your reviews, honestly I am a huge fan, how you breakdown boards and fins has taught me so much about boards and fins, plus your surfing is pretty cool and the soundtracks are sick. On the other hand, I would like to ask, do you think the HP Twin will work on a Firewire Seaside?, will get that board in a few months but not enough budget to get the Machado Quad Fins. Please share me your thoughts 🤙

Thank you for the kind words!!! My HP Twin will be to loose and slide around in the Seaside as a twin fin. However... I think they will go good if you pair them Small Quad Rears.

Sounds good and I would like to try your fins as a twin set up but if you using a stabilizer you can have smaller depth side fins so wouldn't it still be the same speed and same drag as your larger side fins with the added bonus of a little stability and drive through turns?

Riding a Twin + Trailer still feels like a Thruster to me. That little stabilizer offers hood and pivot. A pure Twin Fin without stabilizer is faster and you have to use your rails and fins combined for solid surfing. Totally different feel in my book. A stabilizer fin is like riding a bike with training wheels.... eventually you want to take off the training wheels.

@@MrRobinski I don’t have a set position I like... it’s really about boards that are meant to ridden as Twin Fins like the Fishbeard or Flat Earth. These two designs are meant to be ridden as Twin Fins and the center box is meant for a Trailer fin.

@@surfnshowreviews7777 yes from what ive seen most twins seem to have fins set back a bit from the standard. It's easy to do a quick measure anyway as adds to the knowledge of design which I know we are all into. Regards.

I'm gonna have to get your twins. I been riding the son of cobra on my fish now and like it but want even more drive for small surf. The fin boxes on my fish are far back, i guess it's a retro fish but i try to ride it like a high performance thruster. I come from surfing progressive longboard with custom epoxy longboards, so it turns a hell of a lot better than my longboards The t1 alpha and akila are very skatey and loose. I have those, the en, al merrick, rob machado seaside and a few others.

Can’t believe I’m only discovering twin fins now.. flat earth opened my eyes but really looking at trying out a true twin. Have you had any luck getting your hands on any album boards? @@finbarjentsch1139 I spoke to Matt Parker at Album and he is not interested in sending boards for review. He said he cannot see the benefit.... Right now we offer Worldwide shipping and you can get our HP Keels from Down The Line Surf in the UK. Hopefully they will carry our HP Twins at some point. Cheers

Noel, hoping you could help me with something. I have the FCS keel fin quad set for my Hydra and I got out of the water last weekend with one of the side fins missing. Rather than buying a whole new quad set, I was wondering if you think the al merrick keel would work as a side fin in a quad set for the hydra

Maybe... I suggest buying a new set of Quad Rears to pair with your keel fin sides. Maybe try Medium Reactor quad rears. It will work way better and less expensive compared to buying the Al Merrick Keels.

@@surfnshowreviews7777 I still have the 2 rear fins, the one that fell out was the front fin so wondering if I could buy a twin set to replace the 2 side fins and maybe also use them in twin fin setups on my other boards to maximize the value of a new fin set

@@ygoeb13 The Al Merrick Keels might be to much fin to run with Quad Rears but it’s worth a try. The Hydra will shred with a set of Thruster side fins and your Quad Rears. It might shred with the Al Merrick Keels purely as a Twin Fin.

Hi Noel. Comparison to futures EN? I have an album plasmic in which I tried the the true Ames twins but turns were too drawn out. Then I tried the NVS apex album twins which are more upright and they’re almost perfect but they slide out a bit. I think an upright fin with more area would be perfect. Was gonna pick up some Futures EN’s today but interested in your thoughts. fins are for San Diego beach break. Thanks!

The EN’s go great frontside and pivot quick.... however not enough hold or drive for me. Backside they slide out on my at the peak of a top turn.

I have a custom Fishbeard on order and was going to get your HP Keels, but now am considering these HP Twins instead as I surf mostly unpredictable beachbreaks. Do you notice a difference in speed you are able to easily generate between these two fins?

Both fin templates are fast down the line. I think you will like the HP Twins better for Beachies

So you can slap these on most boards such as a Pyzalien 2 and it should feel like a twin fin board designed to be a twin? these fins look sick

Hey Noel, love your in depth reviews as always! I've got an Album Twinsman on order with a rounded pin tail. I'm pretty sure you haven't surfed it since Matt Parker isn't offering it up for a review(unfortunately), but just wondering if you might have any fin input based on the design. I was contemplating running the Rasta 2+1 fins without the trailer or possibly the EN's or Aipa's. But then I came across this review of your HP twin's and thought they might be a good fit. Thoughts?

We offer them in Twin Tab and they will fit in your FCSII boxes. We will not make them in FCSII snap in base due to FCS having a patent that does not allow us to make them at this time.

Noel, trying to choose between the HP twin vs keel. I have a MR style performance twin fin with swallow tail, currently running captain fin 'CF twin' which are smaller and more upright and I must run the trailer. Looking to ditch the trailer, have more drive off the bottom, and have more of a hold and go into a carve past 12 o'clock instead of sliding out. Mostly surf beach break which could be punchy and steep half the time or flatter/mushier the other half of the time, also don't mind a little more hold/control when it gets bigger. Should I go with HP twin or take it further with the HP keel? thanks

Go HP Twin… they will get you the hold and drive your looking for with the performance in the pocket. No stabilizer needed….

Nope.... The folks at Lost said they are trying to keep up with demand and a board review on the Sub Driver 2.0, Rocket Redux, or on any model for that matter would make even harder for them to keep up. So no reviews on the Lost boards for a bit.... sorry.

How much fin angle or kant sp ? are you using in your prototype? Im using the son of cobra fin which looks similar to yours but they have i think 6 degree of angle comp to average 4.. Love the videos 🤙

For the HK Twin my fins will mental… you can go HP Keels for maximum drive, hold, and still get excellent pivot. If you want it quicker rail to rail and get it into the lip faster then get the HP Twins. We only have a promotion for our Patrons at this time. The transition can be tough for sure but eventually you adapt quicker. Thrusters feel tight after a few sessions on a high performance twin.

Absolutely... the construction is fiberglass and they offer more hold and drive compared to most other twin fin sets I’ve tested to date except for the Al Merrick Keels. The Al Merrick Keels offer a little more hold and drive but not much pivot or release. They also have so much hold due to their fin area that they put a lot of stress on the fin boxes so they crack or break. Mine won’t do that to fin boxes... even in overhead waves with good power.

Would your HP fin work well on a Lost sword fish ?

Not really.... the side fin boxes are up a bit to far to ride the Sword Fish purely as a Twin Fin. You would need a small trailer fin to add to the HP Twins for the Sword Fish to go good.

Yes, the HP Twins are a little bigger compared to the Power Twins. The HP Twins have a wider base more fin area, a little more rake, and they go a little deeper into the water. With the HP Twins you will get more hold and drive compared to the Power Twins..... especially backside. The Power Twins are a bit more upright so they will pivot a little faster compared to the HP Twins.

@@bushkey HP Twins will offer more hold and drive in the Beachies and point breaks. Pivot is only good with hold.... hard to come off the bottom and get into the lip quickly if the board feels like it’s going to slide out. Especially backside.
