As someone who does get caught up in the map art process this is extremely helpful, thank you.

Glad it was helpful! Remember that you can do it all later. Just get the levels playable and move on! 🙂🙃

This "grey-boxing" actually looks like it would be part of a game, maybe the style could be like this all the way!

That was a great video and made me think. I actually don't know what is the best way to structure the process of making a rpg maker game. I tend to jump around a lot, bit of mapping, bit of eventing, sometimes I create one map, create cutscene and add some events before I move to the next map. The problem is I get overwhelmed. Could you please make one video on what is your process to actually complete making of a game from start to finish. Great channel btw

For a similar thing I've done, I will pick one 'walking' tile and one 'blocking' tile. For that cliffside map you made, we could use the generic grass block and cliff block. That'll get me 95% of a basic map that can get across what I have in mind and be able to have cutscenes and such on it. For any important details (such as the bridge or the statue), I'd quickly figure out some tile that would work as a placeholder (such as a single bridge piece that can be walked on and touched up later or a generic statue piece tiled around the same size as the unique statue). Then I slap WIP in its title (or more recently, put it into a WIP tree) to let me know to work on it later. But that's also because RPG Maker has a really easy to use map system, for other game makers or programming languages grey boxing makes perfect sense.

That makes a lot of sense especially if you are working as a team. The team's workflow, pipeline shall not be slowed down by any departments.

Even if you solo dev, grey boxing your levels makes it easy to just, work on your game and get an alpha finished.

This will help out a lot when I make games. Seems so much easier then how most videos tell you to do it.

Would it be possible to use this drawing as a level in your game? Like no tiles or anything, just import it into mv and select what parts of the map can and cannot be walked on?
@SadTown99 Жыл бұрын
Yes! There are a few ways to do this with Parallax Mapping / Collision Mapping, Watch this tutorial & decide for yourself which method you feel most comfortable with - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXiln4isa7WqaNEsi=uBv7icPKnTA79_wj

You may not need to buy an actual green screen. It may be possible to color correct the sheet to be green. Of course, that’d likely make you look strange.
@beardalaxy4 жыл бұрын
You could change the color to be keyed out to the color of the sheet, but it looks like his skin tone is a bit too close to the color of the sheet.
@kuddlycritiques4 жыл бұрын
@@beardalaxy Yeah, that’s what would make him look strange.
