I love this. So few creators put as much thought into the biology of their worlds as they do the physics. It's nice to see you put a lot of thought into the evolution and adaptation of your fantasy characters and at least have a roadmap of the lore, even if parts don't make it into the game. It definitely adds richness to the environment, helping it stand out above most generic ecosystems.

I LOVE the idea of fairies being more insect like rather than humanoid!! Such a unique concept and really fits the vibes for not only the dark fantasy world you've created but also fits with the irl lore of fairies being a little bit evil/ mischievious. I personally think it's a really good concept and would like to play! I'll be waiting for it! And I've gots some ideas to share! I'd suggest implementing UV reflectivity since it's the main modem that flowers use to attract dusk or nightly pollenators like bats so if your fairies are mainly active at night then I do suggest using that feature to aid the fairies since if they (even if faintly) exude UV it'll help them locate flowers quicker in dim or dark lighting. It's gonna look cool if the flowers glowed a little bit in the presence of a fairy. Bioluminescence might be over the top but I do suggest implementing blue or purplish blue bioluminescent algae only on the pond at the center of the room when the red moon rises so that you'll have that nice cool color to play with and contrast the red moon's glow. And it'll give that odd magical and mysterious feeling too. Some wall moss here and there that you can harvest to get moss salve that also add a tiny sprinkle of spark like flowers in the night. And a little variety on fairies like butterfly themed for day active ones to contrast the firefly one of the night and a rare zoomy dragonfly one to contrast the slow ones on random times, etc. There are more but adding more than that to your minimalistic design feels like a sin so I'll stop there 😅 Anyways, would love to see the release! Can't wait!

You are doing a genuine devlog and related stuff and you are passionate about your creative vision. It shows! Most of the devlogs floating around youtube now a days are just an excuse to be a youtuber. They are just using game dev as a niche. This is a breath of fresh air as a game dev and artist. I want to see real projects like yours come to life.

Ooh so you wanna add an Animal Crossing-like creature system ! I think i would be a good idea to make a way to introduce the creatures that you've caught in greenhouses to develop some aspects of the ecosystem. For example, adding earthworms could add a grow boost to the plants.

With your knowledge and interest in eco-systems, you've probably addressed this at some point or another, but all I can presently think about is how the frogs, owls and bats eat the fairies 🙈 And the owls eat the frogs, too. It's not nice to think about, but it is part of an ecosystem. This looks very cool, btw. I like the nocturnal, realistic yet fantasitcal aesthetic you're going for and the hand-drawn style goes really well with it. Add to that your skill for drawing which makes this look wishlist-ready already. Keep it up

I love this video. I'm currently (mentally) world building for my own video game and I never thought to involve an ecosystem. I'm going to start adding factors where different features interact with each other. Like maybe some creatures actually have a hunger or thirst feature making them seek out food and water as well as some kind of environmental impact of their presence.
@EspressoMoon Жыл бұрын
I'm late, but yes more casual art videos!! Can't wait for your next devlog too!
@sophiemichel8045 Жыл бұрын
Hey, I really enjoy watching your videos and can’t wait for it to come out so I can play it. I hope I’m not overstepping and I’m not even sure if it’ll be an aspect in the game, but I just noticed that most games ignore how their animals etc would interact with each other, even if the player is present. Easiest example: you get chased by monsters, pass some bandits and they just gang up on you, ignoring that the bandits probably would try to get away from the monsters. I don’t think there’s a lot of fighting involved when it comes to your game (?), but it would still be such a nice detail, if the environment doesn’t ignore it’s own rules to interact with the player. Like if you eat outside the owls attack you, but if a frog’s nearby, it’ll snatch the frog because that’s the easier target. This isn’t supposed to be criticism and I’m sure there’s enough to do already, but that’s just like a cherry on top detail I would love to see more often and you’re still in development so it makes sense to mention it now rather than when the game is out. Definitely staying tuned and excited!
