I love that someone is talking about essentialism which is the true heart of minimalism. Too often people are led to believe that minimalism is just decluttering and they miss the whole amazing point.

As someone who moved to the 'cabin in the woods' (not quite but the idea) recently, life is still life. I love it here, and life has gotten an improvement, but it's not magic. I'm still me, I brought my bad habits with me. I'm still on my phone too much. I get tired and just put a pizza in the oven instead of washing cutting and cooking veggies from the garden, and they grow bad. Work is stressful, I fight over chores with my partner. Etc etc. We all need this, we all need healing. Being able to take a walk in the woods to help with that is such a blessing.

- summery - when you create a "mental breathing space", learn to say no, and eliminate the nonessentials. then we are on track to live a simpler life. 1. Essentialism: - find what's really matters and strip away all the rest - make time for the vital few rather than the trivial many 2. Endowment effect : - ask yourself if it's essential or not - act as if you already don't own it, would I put an effort to get it again? 3. saying no - If it isn't a "hell yes" then it's a No - we saying No to the nonessential to free up time and space to the essential few. 4. space - create the mental breathing space in your own place

I appreciate that you addressed the recent rise in "cottagecore" content. It's so easy to forget that the content people create, images, stories, vlogs, snapshots, are heavily curated through editing to show only the rosy and glossy and highly aesthetic. I want everyone to have access to their natural areas and feel connected to nature, but I often worry that the simplistic ideas shown via social media let's us forget why "cottagecore" is actually so appealing. The effort to live in nature sustainably, with a strong balance of giving to the earth along with taking is what you don't see in the "cottagecore" content. Anyway, I agree, essentialism is the way forward. I like to pair it with environmentalism so my priorities, plans, and goals align with a healthy and thriving planet

Yes to this and caring about the Earth! Do not go out and cut down trees! I also notice, the presenters don't mention a location (at least in general). I bring this up because I'm not going to pollute the Earth driving, trying to "find it". I take the notion, like with this lovely video, and thing where can I walk or bike for what I can Nature Time....

Getting rid of most clothes in my closet, most apps in my phone, most effects in my editor, when you build around only what’s crucial to your life and strip away as much unneeded noise as possible…game changer for enjoying life imo. Consumerism is such a drag and holds you back from so many things, including just the ability to think more clearly/focused on what you love and are passionate about…keep it simple;)

I just want to add, that not every person can feel the "hell yes". If you are a fearful person for example, you might just feel "no" all the time. That doesn't mean you should say no all the time. as a person who knows how "hell yes" feels like, i didnt even realize that other people can have this experience. 100% valid statement. if anyone feels like that, try to work first through the illusions of anxiety, fear and shame, so you get to know the sound of your true self's voice.

Similar to my thoughts when watching this video. It's good advice for someone who's already doing too much, but as an introvert that has to really push myself to maintain the social connections that I value, the idea of having my standard being "only the social activities I would go out and actively work to make happen on my own" would end up with me in solitude for potentially months at a time, lol. But I feel like I'm at a good balance right now, of pushing myself to do more but still listening for when my battery is running low and being willing to say no at strategic points so that the more socially inclined don't end up draining me too much. And I like the advice about whether I would go out of my way to get the items have, I'm working on decluttering right now and I think this will be a very helpful question to ask.
@katy8605
@katy8605 Жыл бұрын
yes this is what I was wondering about because I think I would just about always say no and I don't always know if it's for the right reasons. Maybe I am just staying in my introvert comfort zone and I'm eventually going to end up alienating everyone I know because majority of the time I find being social nonessential.

I love living in my coastal city! Right outside my door is: corner store, Chase bank and a hair-stylist, a donut shop and a coffe shop, book store, 3 Asian restaurants ( Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese) a real estate office, two more banks, an old school bar and also oil change place for cars. All within one block of where I live. Cannot imagine living in a cottage in the middle of a forest with no one around but I must admit it is relaxing watching the cottage videos.

i live in a gated community in florida that has all of that plus close to beaches, laundry service, golf carts, landscaping, green woods, a banks, hospital, pharmacy, emergency doctors, day care, spa, 10 sports facilities, sauna and masseuse in the country club and a coffee shop. i dont need a bakery since i bake as a hobby or immediate restaurants cause i eat healthy and cook myself. if i need these i can drive 30 minutes somewhere. oh and i live in 'burbs farrrrr away from miami or tampa or any big city. i also have a sense of community and about ten activity groups of people of varied backgrounds and education and skills. so no, the future forward is self sufficient mini communities more attuned to nature, healthcare and hobby building as AI takes over. jobs for you and your kids will be redundant in cities in a decade or three and the rents will be unimaginable. building a modern gated community with greens, parks, private security and emergency care will attract most humans. whether in the western world or developing world. hence, your lifetstyle is fleeting and will be un affordable soon enough. youre (basically the salaried or wage classes) one health emergency away from moving back with parents if you dont already own your "city" home or inherited it. those are the only kind can thrive in cities. the land owning "gentry" class, not the "salaried" class.

In this time now more then ever I want people in my life who help me to rebalance myself and she is a youtuber who embodies what I want in terms of psychologically: to be more grounded, calm, kind in ways and words, curious, playful in nature. Altho you see it come out in all her videos, getting to sit with her and witness these features front and centre. It makes me feel less lonely. Nice people are in short supply these days.

This is such a cool coincidence! I was re-watching Mad Men and was so touched by Don's monologue in S4 E8: "We're ruined because we get these things we wished for we had". We want things, without ever asking ourselves why-and then have to battle the emptiness we are left with when we finally get them. Definitely a topic worth reflecting on.

Living in a bustling city like Seoul, it can be really hard to find those quiet moments because even if you become more mindful, there are still lights, ads, and people creating content ALL around! Try to find a peaceful moment at river, but everyone is just posing and taking pictures. You start to feel weird and out of place for just enjoying something with your eyes. And, in my case... I get quite annoyed in my quest for a peaceful moment. I think with the explosion of social media apps, we've become so backwards. Nature is no longer a thing to appreciate, but instead a thing to enhance our own appreciation. I think I heard it from the minimalists, "we have all of these people taking all of these photos to places they never even experienced." Take the picture so you can remember the moment and the beauty of the scene, but also remember to be in the moment. Pictures of beautiful places also help later when you maybe don't have time to go out. you can look through your camera roll and revisit the things you found beautiful and relaxing that day. I'm not sure if any of that makes sense, but I hope you can understand my meaning.

I’m not usually a comment writer but it has to be said… You. Are. Frikken. Amazing! I’m so grateful for you and your channel. This is the first time touching my phone in a couple days after a 2 day migraine. I was getting back into “doing things” again but stumbled across your vid and I’m so glad I gave myself the time to watch! You have such a calming and nurturing voice, energy and smile ✨I’m very thankful for you sharing your life tips and tricks, they are probably my favourite videos tbh (although I love them all)! Thank you for being you beautiful! Much love from 🇦🇺

I just moved into (another) studio apartment after over 30 years in my previous one and my main objective was to get rid of all the junk I accumulated over the years and start all over. If I haven't used or seen something with in the past year or so, it was either pitched, donated, or recycled.

I think the constant input is why we have so much trouble sleeping. Our minds haven't had any time to just process our thoughts of the day. I'm really trying to break the online habit. I'm trying to remember how I spent my days 8, 10 years ago and it was so much more enriching than hearts on an app. Gotta get back to me.
