Designing A Wooden PC Case Is Easy

I built a PC Case from wood that will work both as a desktop and tower. I tried to optimize for airflow so that I can keep the fan speeds low and it stays quiet.

Nice I have an early 2000s clear computer case i used a router on to put rgb 120mm fans into and has a wood panel on the side with same power supply 😂

I wanted that acrylic case back in the day, but I built my PC in a 80's vintage tuner instead in 2005 😜 I couldn't fit enough fans of a reasonable size for the hardware I bought 2 years ago, so I made this "drawer" with a top, LOL 😋

Looks cool, but I know I have to have CNC and 3 d printer. I could never do it because I don't have woodshop equipment to do it. I do like the case it looks pretty good.

I didn't use a CNC. I used a jigsaw to cut the boards and make the holes and a router (the handheld one) to make the slots for the boards to slide into. If you know someone that does woodwork they'll likely have both for you to borrow. They're also not that expensive if you plan to use them more than once. Regarding the 3D printer, I just printed those brackets to make the video more interesting ;) You don't need to use hard drives or you can connect them directly to the bottom or side of the case with a rubber washer in between to dampen the noise.

This looks nice. I am in the phase of collecting some ideas for a wood PC. The video is now 1 year old. Do you use that PC? Does it work well? How many Watt does the system have in "full power"?

Thanks. I hope it helps create your own design. Another benefit of building it this way is that you don't have visible fasteners (except on the side that supports the motherboard and the back), which I think looks better. If you'd want you could even slide a piece of glass in the top/side. I designed it to look ok in either orientation (desktop/tower) I don't have one of those Watt meters, but the GPU (Vega56) pulls 270W in FurMark and the CPU (Ryzen 3700X) 90W in Prime95. They are never both maxed at the same time with normal workloads and it stays reasonably quiet. It was on in the whole time in the video btw to give an indication of idle noise. This case is probably better ventilated than most cases you buy off the shelve before you start adding more fans to those. It still looks as in the video and I use it every day. I edit all my videos on it for example. I game on it occasionally and most games do 100 fps on a 1440p monitor. I'm finally getting around to putting that metal backplate in that I mentioned in the video. The back is a bit too floppy with all those holes. Gluing/screwing some metal to it should help. When doing that I'm also going to extend the PCI-e cutout (getting rid of the fan back left) because not all motherboards have the GPU slot in that place. Newer ones often start a slot lower and put the NVMe SSD above it. I'll just stick some dust filters to the holes that are left.

@@BitsOfInterest Thanks for the extensive answer. :-) You have an awesome computer there. It will be hard to build something that's as cool. You also have nearly the same hardware than me :-) Again, thanks for the inspiration

@@ElmarLecher Thanks, that's nice to hear 😁. I make videos of my projects so people like you can get ideas and learn from my mistakes. If you go this route it's really easy as long as you have a router or can borrow one to make the slots. It was my first time using a router building this case 😉 PS I watch a lot of other people's videos to get ideas too and then I make a video about it if it's different enough from what's already out there

Man said design but built a simple box yet effective

Correct. Design, not build :p I made this case before I started to make videos otherwise I would have included video footage about how I made it. I wanted to bring across to the viewer how simple this can be, because some people overcomplicate things ;)
