I think they are missing that if the surround plate they discussed today is something like 2 inches in thickness and the intention as discussed is to bring the roof slats down over the outside edge to be fastened, it can't be 90 degrees. Wood won't do that. The slope in the drawing goes from fairly radical to benign so if you plunk a 2 inch plate all the way around how do you get the dainty thin strips to fold over the outside. You don't. That sill will need to be tapered to varying degrees all the way around or it will be a clunky mess. Also I would never work off of some else's templates, just asking for trouble.

Said he could use chicken wire to add support to the wooden cross supports. As he said it only has to look good. Function is irrelevant as usual. Just creating car art. Starting to get boring knowing that. The original top frame could have been modified to achieve a rounded top and still it could be folded down, waterproof and have the back window. But that’s including function and that’s not what he cares about. He couldn’t care less about having a nice driver. All that matters to him is what it looking like when he stands 30’ back. This all has nothing to do with car building. It’s just beginner art work and the finished art is ugly.

It's a very complex shape. Certainly doable for a good woodworker, but the trick is the fitting and means of attachment. Chad has no clue what's really involved, or how to make it work. There's a tortured connection between his head bone and his mouth bone!

I’m a pretty experienced woodworker. It is a pretty complex shape and would be difficult unless you use sheet goods. I’m not sure that is the look he is after though. Anyway I’m sure I could do it but I probably couldn’t do it for what Chad would want to pay or in a timeframe he would be happy with. And I would need the car, I wouldn’t attempt it from a pattern he gave me.

I think it will look good. I’ve seen entire car bodies made of wood that looked quite nice. Most times wood is harder to take care of, so it’s not a popular car roof material. Wooden boats look good as well but more work to keep up with. By the end of the video I think Derrick was looking forward to pitting his skills to this project.

Mean comments aren’t necessary by anyone. Disagreeing minds over method or product vision can vary but there is no need to insult . Also sometimes there is disappointment from some viewers and that should be okay without some being overly sensitive to a comment like , “please paint this one or that look isn’t for me .” This is okay , it’s just participation in the project so relax , and these are not always in the negative column . When the subject of airbags or hydraulics came up and Chad goes; "You know how much work is involved?", I wrote off the "MIllion $$ build" category forever on this channel. It's all shortcuts, all the time! BTW chrome tape is even cheaper than the plastic "flexible" chrome. They have 1/4" chrome pin-striping tape at O'Reillys. Perfect for that effed up windshield frame.
