My first streamer patterns I ever tied I made them up. I have fished tackle for years and caught thousands of fish so I went in mind with a couple of ideas in my head. I wanted a pink and white one and a green and yellow. I put a little flash on the underside of the streamer since the eyes of fish are on the top of their heads and love to attack from the bottom. They are not weighted so they don't sink very fast at all. Anyways my very first cast with one of them I just cast it out and then was tossing the excess line off the dock into the water (because I suck at casting) and I didn't want to step on it. While I was doing that, my streamer which was not water logged yet was floating on the surface and within just a few seconds a fish struck it hard while I was still fiddling with the line. I laughed and said to myself "Yeah well that one works" both color patterns worked extremely well. I was fishing a stocked pond too so it was really pressured and I was pulling up so many fish with my flies. It felt great! I love to design my own flies, what I usually do is look at lots of other peoples flies when I need idea's and inspirations.

I cast one of my Brown Trout Weamers under a tree while it was still dry, and it floated with the marabou spread out. A very big brown absolutely smashed it. It occurred to me that big browns, sitting under trees in the spring, have learned that baby birds sometimes fall out of their nests. My dry streamer spread over the surface was a passable imitation of a baby bird.

is that a Rushton net?

The net was a present from my wife and it was made by a local man, Chris Mouriopoulos under the Cedar Landing Nets brand.

@@hooked4lifeca I prefer longer thinner hoop nets. They just make more sense.

Why on this video for the brown trout weamer, why was the bucktail omitted? In an earlier video for the same weamer it was included to prevent fowling? Just wondering where that leaves us. Thank you

This just happened to be an older fly that I had tied quite a few years ago, before I started adding the bucktail underwing. I went with the old fly as it represented the original concept. The video wasn't really about tying the Weamer, but more about how to set about designing any fly.

how does it hold up after multiple fish. looks a little fragile!

It isn't the toughest fly out there, as the marabou will degrade after a few fish, but the interesting thing is, it still continues to catch fish. I've landed fish on flies that have had less than half the marabou remaining. The fly will probably continue to work with almost no marabou, just not as well. The marabou does give it that certain je ne sais quoi.
