If you're using water beads with your distilled water...as often as you'll like. Just make sure the beads don't dry out, because you'll have to start the soaking process over again to get them large. Hopefully this helps.

Love that paint pen...tfs....is it washable and food safe? Is it permanent? Love the elegant effect it gives

Great morning! If you're talking about using it around the rim of a drinking glass...no ma'am not food safe. If you are designing with it like...someone's name on it on the front or back...safe to use. It's not permanent. Soaking, hand-washing, and a little of scrubbing is all you'll need to do.
