However, throughout the video, you talked about doing the entire process in the span of 30hrs. This is a good way to execute take-home assignments but what about Whiteboarding sessions? For someone who is a beginner, when is the right time to start working on a problem statement, how do they know that they have learned to an extent when they can finally begin their first portfolio project?

Great question. Here is my personal recommendation. Try to finish learning how to create good looking screens in Figma. Which means things about trypography, colors, visual hierarchy, Color and text styles, auto layout etc. All the UI related topics. You don’t really need anyone’s help to learn all this. I would also recommend going through the material guidelines as well. Then I would suggest to learn design simple and basic flows such as a search experience, payment experience, browse experience, referral flow etc. Come up with tiny problem statements and design flows that have 5-10 screens. You will have to learn about competitive analysis here. Then I would say you can start working on a problem statement given that you Ui and UX skills are in a decent shape.

Great video. I just had a doubt regarding the metrics you mentioned in context to the examples. The points you mentioned seem to relate more to the 'existence' of the app/internal tool rather than how certain internal elements can affect these metrics. For eg, when you say 'onboard more educators' it feels independent of the design within the tool, it feels more business-related since it is based on the very idea itself. Compare this with the conventional example of a particular design feature/flow increasing the conversion rate. I'm curious to hear your perspective on this.

Research is a broad term. What type of research are you talking about?

I just want to ask that when you said that the worst projects are "Ed tech, Ecommerce, Food tech, News " did you meant that we can't use these projects in our portfolio even if we redesign these websites or apps to make the overall user experience better or add some new feature in the previous design.

Haha. I didn’t say they are the worst. I said they aren’t the best as they don’t demonstrate product thinking skill. You can add anything to your portfolio. But if you want to get into good product companies with great design teams, generic app projects won’t work. Redesigns are always good as long as there is a significant difference in the UI and the experience. The redesign should help make a significant impact to the user and business. Just adding a small tiny feature isn’t enough. You can still do it, but then you may need more projects to demonstrate your breadth of skills.

One question! When understanding the user and creating the user story, do we perform normal research methods like surveys, interviews, etc? Or do we make assumptions as to who the user will be and based on that we create the user story?

You won’t know who to reach out to if you don’t decide who you want to solve for. Hence you take a call on who you want to solve for. Then use research methods to gather insights from users you decided to target.

Talking about doing Competitive Analysis (CA) What if I'm solving a problem which doesn't have any competitors I.e. No competitor app?? How I can do the CA? If I can't do, than what can I do? Do I design something based on my research insights? And later test the wireframes with the user?

Well it doesn’t matter even if you take hell of other designers. The interview rounds will test your skills in every angle. Just because you took someone’s help in the assignment round doesn’t mean you’ll be able to present your work well, provide valid answers when your decisions are challenged etc

Hi, Chethan! Great video as usual. I had one small doubt. In the car application problem statement, I had understood that the application will show you details of many cars so that the salesperson can show the customer many car options to help them decide the car they like best. But in 36:39, you say that the tool we made is used AFTER the customer already selects the car they want to buy. Am I missing something here?

Maybe there is a misunderstanding. The tool is to be used from the beginning of the flow
