Randomly stumbled on this. Been spiritually depressed for a long time. Clinically depressed first so there is a difference. I long to be out of this world. Sick of struggling with sin and feeling oppressed most of the time.

I am glad you are drinking at the well with us. I hope that you absorb Gods word and allow his definition of what you are in him shape your life right down to your depression. Because he “ makes all things new”. Allow the same God that spoke our world into being confirm you are in fact made new.

@humble7045 Having suffered from, first, serious chronic illness and, secondly, chronic major depression for 35 years, I can certainly relate to what you have said here. However, I have learned that, as you trust the LORD, He will BRING YOU THROUGH every trial that you face. It can be quite discouraging to be faced with continuing sin, but please remember that the LORD's love for you is NOT based on your performance, and your salvation is based upon Christ's finished work on the cross. Sanctification (being renewed by God's grace into the image of Christ and enabled more and more to die to sin and live unto righteousness) is a LIFELONG process. But GOD HAS PROMISED TO CONTINUE HIS WORK IN YOU TO COMPLETION (Phillipians 1:6). Yes, I often find myself briefly (for a few days at a time) hoping for death to rescue me from this suffering, but then I remember that God has a purpose for my life and that, in every trial, He has taught me precious lessons, and has brought me closer and closer to Him. When we are depressed, we want to isolate ourselves from everyone and everything. This typically causes us to neglect our Bible study, prayer time, and devotions. However, it is crucial for us to try, with all our might, to move our focus away from ourselves and put our full focus on the LORD. Whatever we focus on the most becomes greater in our hearts and minds. For example, when Daniel was in the lion's den, he focused on God, NOT the lions. Daniel went to sleep that night in peace. Also, please remember, the more (quality) time that we spend in Bible study and prayer, the more the Holy Spirit tends to work in us. If you've been a Christian for very long, you've probably noticed this. The LORD be with you. I am praying for you.

⁠@@PaulLee-rs8uwPlease pray for me brother/sister in Christ. I have been going through very aggressive lows and been having suicidal thoughts for the past 4 years. I’m 20 (M) and really struggling. I battle daily in Jesus name and continue to try my best to hold fast to YHWH God with all my spirit but I am vexed beyond belief. Simply being has become insufferable. I need help. Please Jesus. He who the Son sets free is free indeed. I truly believe that. Please pray for me friend.

Hello Gar. I believe Mr Piper is using the ESV by this time. Before that the NASB. I believe growing up, it was the RSV & KJV. He is learned however, so he frequently will insert or advise on what he thinks renders a passage more clearly and/or accurately. Usually when doing this however, he will apprise his listeners of the fact. Good day to you friend, the Lord Jesus is good!
