I remember as a kid this song coming out and loving it but the kids at my school hated it, so being a wuss, I pretended not to like it just to “fit in.” I would go home and listen to “Dynasty,” over and over. My favorites: “Charisma,” “Sure Know Something,” and “Hard Times.”
@TheAgentAssassin Жыл бұрын
HAHA same here , I thought the song was awesome. I think I was 9 yrs old when it came out. Herd mentality is definitely a thing. At 9yrs old though KISS was already kind of cheeky with all the make up stuff. I didn't ever take them too seriously. This wasn't like Slayer suddenly coming out with a song called "Dancing Queen" by Abba. This was band with dudes in make up and high heels, they were always kind of "gay" to me. Especially Paul.

"Hard Times" is one of my favorites as well. I am a guitar player and in the 1980s my band played both "Hard Times" & "Rip It Out" my drummer was a huge Kiss fan & I especially liked the songs done by Ace. Great songs!! I remember liking Dynasty as well but didn't care what others thought. I was/am a Rush "Geek" so everyone hated what I was into anyway.

Same exact thing happened to me. I discovered Kiss in a true way later in life. I wasn’t allowed to listen to them in the 1980s when I was a kid. Too many adults around me thought they were devil worshipers and said their name stood for Kids in Satan’s Service. No lie. They really thought that. Anyway, one day I was listening to hard rock songs on my Amazon echo and that one came on and I was hooked. I started really listening to their albums and found song after song that really hit. They’re actually a great band.

Gene Simmons is crafty. In 1982, Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance wrote a song. They thought they gave Simmons a finished copy. But, he said no 👎 and added a 3rd verse. Thus, Rock and Roll Hell is listed as "written by Bryan Adams, Jim Vallance and Gene Simmons ". Adams and Vallance got schooled 🏫. But, they were younger, thus, more naive. Desmond Child hit it bigger in 1986, writing with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora, and in 1987, writing with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. Bon Jovi and Aerosmith albums were recorded in Little Mountain Sound ⛰ Studios 🎙, Vancouver, Canada 🇨🇦. Produced by the late Bruce Fairbairn, RIP, and engineered by Bob Rock.

Kiss secured management in 1974 and cashed their first million in late'75 when Alive! sold big. Beth and I Was Made For Lovin' You were the original band's big songs. Management found it more and more difficult to keep the band together and in 1979 it imploded when drummer Peter Criss was fired. After several line up changes, in 1990 Kiss hit the Top 40 with powerballad, Forever.

The song is a classic. I saw the Psycho Circus reunion tour twice and when they did I Was Made for Lovin You at both shows it got the biggest reaction from the crowd. The KISS Army may have been told to hate it in 1979 but it went to #1 and it sounds great to this day. It’s insane to pretend IWMFLY isn’t a rare jewel in KISS’s crown and one that all involved should be proud of. It doesn’t keep showing up on every compilation by accident.

Unfortunately, as far as "revolutionary" you got Trevor Rabin in 1977 with a song called Love Life, which melded classical, rock, disco and then reggae in its outro. Gene's comment was at least ten years later than Child says. The Elder came out in 1981 and Child didn't have the success he mentions (Bon Jovi, Aerosmith) until 1986/87.
