@@gerardjachymiak5822 Who me? Seventeen is awfully young to be concerned about what to do. I was twenty-one and still had no clue, and was hitch-hiking through the Mid West. My cousin - she joined the USAF at seventeen and toured the world. I became a songwriter and she became a combat medic. I was playing bars while she was saving lives and getting shot at. You tell me - who made the right choice? We both did what we were drawn toward - and as different as our paths were - we both went into our chosen careers with all that we had. I ended up a third-tier songwriter, and she got shot by a Taliban sniper, became diabetic, and retired from the Air Force. Who made the right choice? We both did. Neither of us have regrets. That's all that matters. Find what you love, and kick it in the ass with all you have. Take chances. One day you, too, will be 65. Don't waste your life worrying. Life only lasts for a few moments. That is a sweet story!! I fix church organs in st louis, and often on the east side. And many of these places have people playing that may have had some success in secular soul music in the past... and they go to the church and play when they're done touring and chasing that dream... so the churches there, though often poor, have amazing music. And the man I was working for was lamenting that he had the floor of the church repaired just a year or so before this... and I asked him why they wear so fast... and he said simply "dancing"... I want to go to that church, where they dance like that... and I'm an atheist. Lol

I have always loved this song since the first time I heard it, in 1968. One of the great songs coming out of Jamaica by a great artist.

A Classic song that defied its age even after all these decades. That opening bass line gets me every time 😎. A song about struggle and hardship that was both badass and beautiful. Nothing in so-called modern music even comes close to this tune. Also, Loved the video 💖.

The Israelites are the so-called Blacks, Hispanics, & native americans. Our Nation consists of 12 tribes, none of them african. Hebrews would be the tribe of Judah, the Righteous Jews - the “black” Man, Woman, & Child, just like the Messiah Hamaschiach and our Heavenly Father, Yahawah. ✌🏿

The older it gets the more I love this! Will never forget the early summer of 1969 (in the USA the song entered our top 40 the first week of June) 14 and carefree and awesome music to listen to. One of the first reggae singles to go top 10 in the USA. It reached #1 in the UK, The Netherlands and West Germany.

I'm so glad Drugstore Cowboys introduced me to this song. Now knowing the lyrics, it fit perfectly in it. Bob played the role of the singer raiding "pharms", and his crew was his poor Israelites he had to provide for. But he has to stop, fearing he and Dianne too would end up like Bonnie and Clyde, and they ended up leaving him. Classic.

As soon as I saw Drugstore Cowboy I went down to a local record store (this was Pittsburgh, 1989) and bought a 45 RPM of this song, and played it over and over.

This turned out to be one of those songs I couldn't remember where I heard it or what it was called but I knew I would come across it again one day. After listening to a string of hits by The Specials it turns out today is that day. For a bonus I saw your comments about Drugstore Cowboys. It nailed two birds with one stone. Amazing song, Incredible movie. I've now connected the dots. Thanks yo!

I remember hearing this once in 1968. DJ only played it that one time and never played it again . I was intrigued enough to remember it. around 1999 another DJ played it and I immediately remembered it. I had actually started to think it was a figment of my imagination
