Why was there nothing? My limbs felt like lead, my mind, jelly. I could scarcely think to move, just to try seemed impossible. Everything was dark, yet I could feel it, the solemn weight of nothingness. I poured all my effort into trying to open my eyes. They felt cemented shut, as if something was trying to save me from the horrors I might find. I managed, slowly. First one, then the other. Above me, the darkness took on a blurry shape. Trees, stars, and finally, a hazy moon. I blinked twice, trying to focus. Something didn't seem right. Everything was off color, washed out. It was if someone had taken a paintbrush and painted over everthing with a thin layer of black. I blinked twice more. Nothing changed. It took me a moment to realise I was laying in a mound of snow. Why couldn't I feel it? Why wasn't it cold? Why was there nothing? My concerns were halted by another thing brought to my attention. A light. Something warmer looking than the rest of this bleak world. I turned my head to the left. Fire? I finally tried to get all of my limbs to cooperate at once. It felt like I was trying to puppet a body that was not my own. After what felt like hours, I was able to roll myself over and stand on unsteady legs. Stumbling over to the blazing inferno, I came to realise it was the shell of what was formally a car on its top. Was somebody hurt? Looking around, I noticed a figure staggering farther up the road. I tried calling out, but my voice, like everything else in this world, seemed broken. He appeared drunk, if his coordination and slurring curse words were anything to go by. I hastily tried to catch up to him. If he had been the one driving, he could be seriously hurt. As I neared him, I reached out to touch his shoulder. My hand found him, but there was an emptiness. An absence of warmth, no feeling of his slick jacket. What was this? The man kept moving. It was if nothing had happened. "Kid. Dammit, Kid! Are you okay?" He slurred. I was fine, I was more worried about him. Was he so drunk he didn't know I was there? I watched him teeter unsteadily down a small ravine, and as he made his way up the other side, I realised what he was making his way to. A body lay crumpled in the snow. Even with the world dark around me I could see the crimson stain that blemished the perfect white around them, and the jacket that looked all too familiar. I almost felt my heart skip a beat. Suddenly, my mind was no longer muddled. Everything was clear. I ran over to the body faster than the drunk man had been able to, and confirmed my fears. The head lay at an odd angle to the body, twisted in a way that was inhuman and unnatural. Blood was smeared across their face, dribbling from their now blue lips. Limbs were bent and contorted, pieces of them missing. Under all the wreckage, though, I could tell. There was no mistaking it. I was laying there. In a cold, dead heap. I had been walking home when the car had swerved off the side of the road, hitting me before flipping several times. I wanted to scream, tried to scream, but still, there was nothing. There would always be nothing.

The dark night started to come out, not a cloud in the sky, just darkness. No moon, no stars. Just... pure darkness. I thought about that weird scarecrow I saw a few years back, that one that talked to me, it sounded like my father. As I stepped on the sidewalk, I could hear a man's voice crying. I walked close to the source of the sound.. It was a dark floating object, with a mask with my fathers face. I stared in horror, I fell down on my knees as I joined in the sobbing. I felt a light wrap around me, it said something. "Please.. Stop focusing about the past.... About me... You must learn.. To be brave, and strong. You can't be crying over me forever." The light said, I heard it slowly whip away, I felt happy. I wiped my tears, and the object carrying the mask of my fathers' face was gone. ...~:D E S O L A T E:~...
