Spoiler . . . . . . . . . . . All the main characters stay alive until the end of the Web novel and even when some of them died they end up getting revived later. It's kinda like dragon ball in the sense all the main cast of characters don't get killed off for good.

As much as I do love this series, dark and depressing are both jsut heavily wrong ways to describe it. It's more of a thing of high stake scenarios without the high stakes. Like it has it's dark moments, but not so much for the main cast. It has consequences but they're either undone or rewarded above the cost. It's more emotional than dark is what I'm saying I guess. truly

He knows that Myulan had no choice but to do what she did, she also did it to protect Youm and Grucius. Youm is someone he is indebted to for taking on the title of 'champion' and Grucius is one of the Demon Lord Carrion's men. He was also calmer knowing there was a way to bring back Shion and the dead villagers. He might have actually killed her otherwise.

From their previous talks it's clear that main source of income for Falmuth was taxes on transported goods via their exclusive paths between neighbouring nations. It seems that not only Tempest doesn't tax any of its alternative roads, they also produce plenty of high-value goods themselves and have best import/export deals with others. Falmuth had to either change its economy or die and they chose the latter.

In the Manga and LN Rimuru was a bit darker through all of these scenes. He also sat with the bodies for 3 days without doing anything. The thing he said to Myulan after he saved her was something like "I wanted Youm to play a role (puppet king), but the other reason which is most important, was I wanted to add another tale of coming back from the dead." It was cool/sad to see him lose his more happy and compassionate personality as he started taking on the weight of being a ruler responsible for people.

Just some info for anyone interested, that I missed myself at first. Rimiru used "Gluttony" not "Predator". His original ability "Predator" seems to take abilities in a pure form and reuse them for the user. And Gluttony takes more physical characteristic things, as seen with the ability's original holder, the Orc Disaster. So it's Rimiru (or his copy) using that ability to take on all the characteristics of eaten creatures instead of just the abilities. To her defense, she didn't know that that barrier would cause the deaths of so many people, she was just told to do her part and didn't know anything of Clayman's plan. She wanted to protect the one she loves, because she feared that Clayman would kill Youm if she didn't cast that barrier. So she didn't just put her life above others.
