Find an old New Holland round baler with the chains. Lock the tailgate in the up position and then use the baler as a swath lifter. We did that one year on barley and it worked great!
@SouthSaskFarmer16 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty good idea!

That's something I've never seen before. This weather is something else. It is snowing here in Minnesota as I watch this. Just flurries now but around 6 pm it was snowing pretty good. They actually have a winter storm warning for the Fargo area. Crazy for October 10th. We also had over 2 inches of rain the last three days. It seems this weather is going nuts all over the place. Thanks for the videos.

I thinks it's got something to do with the hurricane honestly

Wow! That’s is imaginable for an Aussie farmer. Now I know why our 2388 has a heater fitted.

Were you and Antoine able to salvage anything from this field? It looked like it was a good crop before it froze.

I'm actually just going to try combining in it again as we speak lol

That weather you’re getting sucks, I’m in eastern On. and it’s been raining and quite warm. Do you have cattle you can feed that stuff to.

Nope I dont

I understand your grief. I have the same conditions right now here in Alberta. We have barely turned a wheel on our canola because of this bloody weather.
@SouthSaskFarmer16 жыл бұрын
Ya most of Canada is in the same boat as us this year eh
@philpeek54126 жыл бұрын
Can you run the swather offset to one side to give it a " shake" knock the snow off it and move it from where it can sit onto fresh drier ground???? Phil from New Zealand.
@SouthSaskFarmer16 жыл бұрын
Not really the straw and heads are so rotten from rain and drying over and over it's just turning to dust
@philpeek54126 жыл бұрын
Well, your kinda buggered for a while mate.. I really enjoy your uploads!! Spring planting is all but done here but heaps of rain coming ( maybe 60mm ) in the nxt 24hrs.
@totaledmyGN6 жыл бұрын
Don't worry your not the only one going through this. Out of the 1500 acres I farm I have 30 acres of swathed wheat like yours,140 acres of somewhat standing wheat and the real kick in the nuts about 830 acres of swathed canola. I have no idea how the canola will dry with these cloudy/low temp days.
@SouthSaskFarmer16 жыл бұрын
At least canola wont deteriorate like wheat Haha that's one plus lol
@oldretireddude5 жыл бұрын
What is the advantage of a two pass process vs running one pass with a conventional grain header on the combine?
@SouthSaskFarmer15 жыл бұрын
Well instead of the snow having the crop beat flat into the ground that you cant pick it up its 9n swath. Dont need chemical to get it cured to harvests. Can usually be combining it 3 days sooner then if done with chemical list goes on haha
@northern19376 жыл бұрын
I feel for you. I thought we had it bad. Keep your head up.
@SouthSaskFarmer16 жыл бұрын
Ya itll turn around
@Northern_Farmer6 жыл бұрын
Better check your sieves after that...the friction from the combine melts the snow and plugs off the sieves. Still have 3 inches of snow on our canola..

@KawaBrute066 жыл бұрын
If its cold enough, which i'm sure it isn't, it will blow through but yeah, that was my first thought as well. Spent plenty of time poking and scraping sieves from combining corn in the snow.
@SouthSaskFarmer16 жыл бұрын
Well it was minus 10 at the time
@Northern_Farmer6 жыл бұрын
Yea they say if its close to 20 it wont melt in the combine

Could the swats be flipped over with a rake to shake and shudder off the snow while it is still frose? I suppose meaning a certain loss of grain falling to the ground. But at least he geese would have to bend down a little bit more to get it. I wish you all the strength, this year has been cursed, we are out of drinking water after the drought of the century.
@SouthSaskFarmer16 жыл бұрын
No the swaths are way to heavy for a rake to be able to move it's just all bung up Haha wow that sounds like us last fall and over the winter
@roosty66 жыл бұрын
Snow on the swaths. Thats pretty desperate. All my canola is out and I don't own a dryer. So my combines will sit in the shed until things improve. Hopefully this fall and not next spring.

I did this with canola swaths a few years ago. All the old boys said " when its -20 it goes like fuck all" So I waited till then and it did go through the combine like fuck all but was 1/3 snow. Good luck fella!
@SouthSaskFarmer16 жыл бұрын
Ya I've heard of that befor Haha
@AASparkChaser6 жыл бұрын
We combined sunflowers in the snow one year. As long as the temperature was 20 degrees Fahrenheit or colder the snow went out the back like dust. We even screwed the local elevator on the moisture discount because they didn't take the time to do the temperature correction.
@codyludwig28114 жыл бұрын
I hate winter its the stupidest season and yet the longest, Im just glad I dont live up in Alaska where it can get down to 50 below coldest it ever been where I am in Alberta was 42. Dumb season screws everything up including its self its fucked
