Saw Dessa in D.C. Totally floored. Just *wow* soooo much charisma. She's special. AND, she can sing her ass off. How she's not a superstar, I have no idea. Its coming, I'm sure.

WHO DOWN VOTES THIS???? Jealous much? Please, be a solid person and explain why you gave the thumbs down. Legitimate answers deserve a legitimate response. I've seen her live, while recovering from an infection, and she BLEW MY FACE OFF. I will never be able to explain the talent that you will see when you see Dessa live. In addition to be talented and drop-dead-gorgeous, she's friendly with her fans. Tell me another female artist who lives up to this legitimately fulfills it.

@turbopopefunktastic It may have been played live but the piano and violin are both from another track. You can hear the same sample on Stik Figa & Oddisee's 'From the Top' from the EP of the same name.

@Drunkz101 - Cecil Otter is soo sick! His style of poetry, lyricism and underhanded wit is not heard often in HipHop
@Darrellblue213 жыл бұрын
@Drunkz101 - Your reasoning is exactly why Dessa should make HipHop music. To change the game! This is how music is moved forward, by an artist that is beyond the genre taking it the next level. Ya know...

pretty sure she didn't try to write a chaconne, seems like she wrote this about someone and 'their' chaconne, maybe an obsession?

Very pretty song. As for some comments that I have seen posted, in regard to the finer points of "Chaconnerey". Sorry that you haven't received any accolades for your comprehensive understanding of music. Maybe you should go into education, rather than the fine arts.(writing to you, violamanben).

"harmonies illustrate themes in a sonic fashion." That's such a nebulous statement. Harmonies can illustrate themes, but thematic material is usually carried by motifs in the melody. She did nothing with harmony. The song has two damn chords ... "Row Row Row Your Boat" is literally more harmonically complex. It's just not fair to the actual Chaconne. Also, it's a viola in my profile picture. The picture doesn't make me an authority on music, but 4 years at a top conservatory does:)
@Option42B7 жыл бұрын
am i the only one who dislike this version?... it sounds terrible in my ears... i love dessas music but this live performance just doesn't do it for me
@Violamanben11 жыл бұрын
Why to down vote this song: It is based on a fundamentally flawed understanding of a chaconne, and the meaning behind Bach's composition. A chaconne does not utilize a repeated motif, but a repeated harmony. Also, if she had bothered to actually research the chaconne, she would have realized Bach composed it to memorialize his wife after she passed away. The eternal depth of one of Bach's masterpieces is marginalized by a song that does not deserve to carry its name.
