I was stationed here in 1977-1978. At 4:17, what is marked "City Galerie" was Kaufhof back then. One day, I was in the book store, and some old guy was signing copies of his book, but I didn't get one- It was Max Schmeling, Doh!

My father was stationed there from 9/74 to 10/76. We lived at Rex's bar apartments directly across from Jager Kaserne on Wurtzburger Strasse. We were 2 minutes from the movie theater. Fun times

That "neglected part of the city" is where I lived, the remains of the Kaserns we were stationed on. Ready Kaserne only has one building still standing as of today.

I think I have been through it on the train from Frankfurt to München - it looked nice even though you always see the bad parts from the train - if memory serves you see the castle very clearly. Not as clearly as Mannheim when you almost go through the castle grounds on the railway going south.

Gary Johnson Hey Gary this is Joe Gage. I was in Combat support company 1st of the 4th Infantry at Fiori. It was the first building on the right when you came in the gate.
@Joeg-ls6do10 жыл бұрын
Gary Johnson That's right, the 1st Sergeant and CO were on the first floor and the aid station, supply room, and so on were in the basement. I was an 11C forward observer in the 4.2 mortar Platoon also in the basement. I lived in the Quarters across the street from Fiori. They beer guy would come around once or twice a week and bring you up a case of Heylands when you needed it. I remember the guy only had one arm, he lost the other in WW2. The last thing I heard about Tex Turner, he was commander of the airborne department Infantry school Ft. Benning. Made Full bird, got passed over for BG and retired.

Gary Johnson I was in CSC 1/4 in Recon, 72 to 76. Man, that was a long time ago... Me, Terry Tucker, Jorge Valderama, Lou Ferrel, Willis, Elliot, Pacquette, Maxwell, Walsh, The CO's: Crumling, Panoke, Green; Recon Plt leaders, Kelly, Williams, Zeplinski, Sanders. 114's, Scweinhiem LTA. and Tex... Ranger Hall of Fame guy... did the walk from Wildflecken to Fiori... the fuel shortage during the oil bioycott, driving gamma goats for courtesy patrol... good times.
@Joeg-ls6do10 жыл бұрын
OldCavLT I was good friends with Lou Ferrel. His wife Kathy would baby sit my daughter every so often when we needed a baby sitter. I remember Pacquette, Green, Zeplinski. Man that was a long time ago. We did have some good times then.
