Destination D23 Day 1! | Disney Archives, Mickey's of Glendale, Steakhouse 71 Breakfast, News & More

In today's vlog we head to Disney's Contemporary Resort for day 1 of Destination D23! D23 is the official Disney Fan Club and we were so excited to check out the expo this weekend! We got to look at pieces from the Disney Archives, which included rare retro merch, it was so cool to see. We also got to shop at Mickey's of Glendales pop up shop. There was so much neat and rare merch. We also got to see a preview of the Cosmic Rewind ride vehicle and even take a pic in it. We had breakfast at Steakhouse 71, which was amazing! We ended our day by talking with some imagineers about some neat tech they're working on, that was probably my favorite part of the day. Then we headed to Disney Springs for our preview viewing of Disney's Encanto. We hope you had fun hanging out with us today at Destination D23! The Chicago one actually makes a lot of sense to me because Chicago is the birth place of Walt Disney and we have a lot of things named after Walt Disney here.

It's also one of the few Disney Stores left after all the closures, as is Times Square. So, having exclusive Dooney's for them makes sense from a marketing standpoint.

The Chicago and NY Handbags might have been designed for the stores in those areas and overflow stock get sent around. At the NYC times square location there are lots of NYC exclusive merch but they sometimes have overflow from the parks. (They had a ton of the blue sequence themed loungeflys from Disneyland for a while)

I set up my Alexa in the front of the house to turn on the house lights with the Muppets. When I walk into the kitchen in the morning, I say “Alexa, it’s time to play the music,” Alexa responds “It’s time to light the lights,” then the lights all turn on and the Muppets theme plays. I get up at 5.30 to take the kids to the bus, so I need a little pick me up in the morning.

My family is from Colombia and dancing is a BIG part of the culture. Watching Encanto was amazing because all the dancing felt so accurate and reminded me of my family. I like to think that’s part of the reason this movie has so much dancing like Tim said :)

Ohmigawsh!!! Yes...the clear light up visor! I have been looking for that for a while now!!! My mom had that from our trip as a kid. I thought I was making it up! Thank you for validating that this thing actually existed. Hers was red and I think I remember it had a rainbow strap across the front. But there was definitely the 9 volt battery.

I said had, my brother "borrowed" it when he had knee surgery and was using crutches so needed his hands free and never returned it. He has since moved to another town so that is lost.

@TheTimTracker the 3D figment is technology called Hypervsn. It’s a fan blade that has embedded LED nodes on it that can broadcast in 4K. It’s been out for a few years now but not widely used due to its high price per fan.

First off - very happy and healthy birthday today to Jenn! I will be giving thanks for all the content and companionship you all have brought to my life all these years I've been following you. Often times, you have been the only interaction I've had, and I feel like I'm hanging out with friends, instead of watching vloggers. Seeing that Figment vehicle made me MISS the 2nd version, and having MORE Figment in the attraction, and Dream Finder, and meeting them in the garden outside afterwards. :( That Illioneering Lab stuff was SO cool!! Surmising that they're coming out with "city bags" to rob people's pockets of even MORE money. So much cool stuff at Destination D23! I wish I lived in the US purely for D23 because it would cost me a fortune to be a member here in Belgium. Which is kinda sad, because Disney is for everyone...or at least that's what it should be. But the business side has taken over I guess...Oh well. :-) I still enjoy it all. My goodness, that's a lot of dollars for some pretty ugly ears ..... crazy. Also, about the Chicago bag.... it kinda makes sense to me because Walt was born in Chicago. So maybe that's the link? Loved your Mickey's of Glendale haul :-) 80's baby's represent ;-) Also, Pizze with an e is plural for pizza in Italian. Hey Tim just a heads up re: the City Dooney’s . Ima NYC CM, NYC has a flagship Disney store and they go with the flagship stores. Unfortunately the Chicago Flagship store has closed. ☹️. But they did have their own Dooney made. San Francisco closed as well but I don’t recall that a Dooney was made for them. As they were a flagship as well. Hope this helps.

I have the long red pencil with the Mickey head from Disneyland in the 80's seen at @14:19. I used to pretend it was a putter and "played golf" with it. As a result Mickey's nose has a lot of black paint missing lol. Oh, and I think (?) the way they spell "PizzeRizzo" @29:03 is so it more closely resembles the word "pizzeria" - though that's just my guess. :P

I used to have the 15th anniversary hat with the lights and the 9 volt. It said “I’m a winner!” across the top and was see thru Blue. They gave them out for free at the turnstiles if you had a winning ticket. My kids broke it and I cut the 15th anniversary logo off it.

The Chicago themed Dooney is likely because the Chicago locations of the Disney store closed. There was a lot of really amazing Chicago themed Disney merch when there were the stores on Michigan ave and on State Street. including pins and spirit jerseys and tsum tsums and all of that. I would guess a lot of it went to outlets or cast connections. But the Dooneys they'll likely try to sell for full price for a while still
