Dustin, you'll enjoy Cerro Gordo, but wish you could have seen it in 1976 when my dad and I drove up there in a Chevy Impala station wagon. The caretaker living there at the time hadn't seen anyone for over 2 months, we gave him some jugs of water and some canned pork and beans and he let us have free rein to explore every inch of the town. It was long before the American Hotel had been rebuilt (or burned down obviously), and the town was literally a time capsule, and 4 years before they regraded the road up there (the Yellow Grade)... it was quite a trip and we shredded a tire on he talus slope into town, but to be able to see Cerro Gordo completely unrestored and untouched, and explore the surrounding mines, is something I will never forget. That large smelter outside of Keeler was for ore from Cerro Gordo, but for zinc processing. It was trammed down from the Union mine to the smelter, being built in the early 1900's.. You have a fantastic show and I really enjoy it! Those are coyote melons by the way, they're bitter, but the coyotes don't seem to mind...

I grew up near Lake Dolores and knew the family;y that built it originally. What you see now is nothing like what it originally looked like. There is quite a history behind this place that is not widely known, I spent many wonderful weekends there as a young boy. This place was very popular back in the day and even had a motocross track with races on the weekends. As to who Dolores is, She is the mother of the family, Dolores Byers, her and husband John were the original builders of the park. The kids were my age, and we all welt to school together. They were all very nice people and wanted a place for families to have fun together. All the Raging Water and other water parks have this place to thank for being the pioneers of the business. People used to drive hundreds and even thousands of miles to enjoy this place, and was a mecca for a great many high school's annual tradition of Senior ditch day revelries. Originally it was made of all natural lakes with different purposes and even had overnight camping. So much more to this place

Lake Dolores was one of the first water parks, started in the '70s by a family. With a few hairball homemade water slides into muddy lakes, it drew people from all around it was very popular. The water park in the middle of the desert had a good run. There are a few videos on KZbin showing what lake Dolores used to look like, and how it started out extremely primitive. Went from Farmers fields to water park, all man-made using the groundwater. Thank you for your videos, much love to you all 💞🗺️💞

Love everything about your channel. Corny jokes, interesting content. You know, Canuck stuff. But be very careful out there where you leave your rv. My buddy came back to his after some exploring and it was completely ransacked. They took his dirt bike and generator. They even took out the battery and starter. He was stranded for 2 days and that's not the first I've heard of this kind of thing down in the desert.

I used to go to lake Dolores all the time when I was a teenager back in the '80s. That was by far the most dangerous water park I'd ever been to. They had a zipline that was hung completely over gravel. If you let go you ended up in the rocks. Fun place though.. as long as you didn't mind the 45-year-old drunken adolescents all over the place.

I recognize those yellow striped little melons that grew on that dried out vine. Those were Lemon Cucumbers! So-called because of their color and size. They are an heirloom variety of cuke that vines out 25 feet or more. At least they did in my garden, 6 or 7 years ago. And they ARE edible.
