Thanks for the playthrough. I'm glad it's an enjoyable experience for those that want it. I can tell fairly quickly that my initial impression was right, for myself, that it's just not an experience I'm looking for. I honestly just prefer pure analog experiences for this sort of game. That's just me, and I am glad it's a good game for those who like this sort of thing!

Thank you for sharing.. What do you mean by "pure analog experiences"..? Oh, the app? But did you try it and didn't like it, or that you've decided not to even try because of the app..?

@@wishmeheaven that I'm not interested in trying the game due to the app. I know for many people who love app-assistance that it may sound like a cop out, but I have found that I like digital experiences, and I like analog (non-digital), but I am not particularly fond of when they mix. I like explicitly not looking at screens when I enter into a boardgame mindset. I enjoy the mechanical nature of turning pages and using clunky tokens to measure things, etc. And I look for that sort of thing when I play board games. Now, to be clear, I am very happy there are app-assisted and app-driven games, I just recognize they're not for me - and that's cool!

@@jcatterwaul nope, I sure won't. People have predicted AR would take over everything in no time, but I'm probably not alone in recognizing through the pandemic the value of having some things just plain ol' real life. The last thing I want is to be bombarded with more advertisements, more useless information that overloads my brain, and more social media based contact that poorly replaces actual engagement. Maybe I'll be the only one not enjoying the "pleasure" of AR , but I'll be alone happily enjoying the actual reality around me.

@@bricelory9534 while I hipothetically agree with you, Forgotten Waters did an amazing job with their app regarding the story telling which was really immersive, impressive, and add so much flavor to the game. I also heard that Mansion of Madness (2nd) is incredibly app driven game.. So.. while I tend to agree with the principal, I like unique experiences and sometimes they do involve apps.. P.S. Gloomhaven fans claim that the app is tramendesly helpful.

@@wishmeheaven that's cool about your experience with Forgotten Waters! I'm glad it helps you get into the story of the game more. I have heard a lot of good about Mansions 2nd edition, and I can see why it would streamline the game (and add an extra layer of thematic mystery). I personally own, and enjoy a decent amount, LotR: Journeys in Middle Earth, which cannot be played without app assistance. But I also don't have any more desires to play more games like it, and I don't often want to get it out that much...it just feels like it gets in the way of what I want to do when playing a game: play face-to-face with people. Another example, I tried the Imperial Assault app, but I so prefer playing the GM-driven campaign that doesn't use an app, that I will only use the app if I feel like playing solo, and usually my interest doesn't last that long. But I'm not upset these apps exist for those who like them, and I'm happy they make these games. I mean, I don't play enough story-driven games to feel like I will ever run out of options, even if every one of them required an app from here on out. It's just helpful for me to be reinforced in that apps aren't for me and not have to be on the lookout for a game that requires it. It's a bit of a FOMO killer for me 😉☺️ But I am really glad Forgotten Waters is getting such good reception: it's a theme I like seeing more of, since it's a bit more unusual, and mythical pirate is a fun setting that can use more love!

Wendy's early rope purchase certainly worked out beneficial 😀

It sure did! If I can buy a rope or a ladder in Destinies, I almost always do. 😀

Will this game narrate for you or do you read everything yourself?
@peterpan4443 жыл бұрын
Only the intro story has narration. The rest you have to read aloud.
