Hey! First of all, glad to be back. Secondly, I know there's a lot of people who just want me to endless talk about what went wrong. I think some conversation about that is warranted but I also am aware that I don't want to beat a very VERY dead horse. This is more of a chance for me to get back into a place where I can make content, to prove that the new internet is stable enough for me to produce things again, and to make sure I can do a long recording without my voice tanking again. BIG changes are coming to the channel. I just need to formulate some plans for them.

6:18 IMO it wasn’t a rumor that Lightfall was supposed to be the big finale and The Final Shape was going to be something else entirely. I instinctively KNEW that The Final Shape was going to be the Avengers: Endgame to Lightfall’s Infinity War the moment The Final Shape was announced.

@Eivion10 ай бұрын
I appreciate that you acknowledged there were many issues while focusing on the positive. We have heard about the worst of Lightfall's year more than enough from many. I will say I don't buy into the rumor Final Shape and Lightfall were meant to be one thing. I think its more that they broke up pieces of lore and story in the first two seasons of 2023 that clearly should have been in Lightfall itself. I loved the tribute to Lance Reddick at the end. I thought his performance as Zavala in Season of Defiance was amazing and probably his best in Destiny. I miss hearing new lines from him. He was always so good in whatever role he played be it live or just as a voice.

@rayobrown the expansions were included in game pass for about a year, so you didn't have to drop $150 on old content. Only had to buy beyond light and season passes This even happened before sunsetting started, so you could play all of red war up through to shadowkeep. Started during season of Arrivals specifically.

Your piece on Lance was very touching and I couldn’t agree more. It hurts still. It hurts to lose someone who wasn’t just a voice. But embodied the role. And loved the game himself as a player.

I think the hardest part of the year for me was the timing of losing Lance (Rest in Peace, Commander) and that part of the season. Like you said in this video, him mourning Amanda is so...real to us who mourned his passing at the same time. When I found out, I was at work. I cried. I sat at my desk and cried and hoped it was an internet hoax. He was incredible, and losing him hurt so much more than most celebrity deaths. He was a great person. Glad you're getting better, Byf! Happy to see you back.

Watching other creators step in and have your back was like seeing a team of super heroes step in and hold back the darkness while their friend gets back into the fight. Hats off to them all. No lore on dungeon armour was painful this season considering how amazing Warlords Ruin was as a dungeon.

To be fair, we did get the Dungeon armor lore. But instead of being in the armor, it was in the Dungeon itself through a small quest line. Which in some aspects is really cool and an interesting idea, but on the other I think could have been done easier. Like, for those of us who don't do dungeons on repeat, have us be able to get the lore all in one sitting instead of having to go back.

Dungeon armor is kinda mid tbh especially following the unique creativity of Ghosts armor

As someone who has played since the D1 alpha, I’ve been really sad to see the game where it is, and to see my interest decline from daily playing, to only watching your videos for the story, to not consuming any Destiny content at all for the past 8 months or so. I’ve also felt guilty to no longer support my friends who only produce Destiny content. So I’m sorry I haven’t been feeding the algorithm in your favour. I hope 2024 is so much better for all of us, and therefore you and your livelihood.

You know, Amanda's death still makes my throat heavy, and my eyes teary. Zavala's goodbye, and Crow's words "she was the sun" ? That still makes me cry.
@firenzarfrenzy498510 ай бұрын
I know Amanda’s death did little to move the story forward but the emotional gravity of it on our boy Crow was too much. Which having mentioned that, sort of contradicts the former statement. It shows the price of war. Not just losing ground or assets or being lost in a fog of who knows more than us. War hurts because we lose who is closest to us. For Crow, it was Amanda, she was his sunrise.

I've got to admit, as much as I admired the others helping out with the voice-overs in the previous videos on your behalf, it just wasn't the same as listening to the lore without your voice. Really glad to have to have you back Byf!
@generalowen43449 ай бұрын
i'm still gonna believe in my theory where in the original roadmap of The Final Shape, Root of Nightmares was just a dungeon featuring the first, second, and last encounters and was supposed to drop the season right before The Final Shape. but after the expansion split they had to upgrade it to a raid to fill in gaps of a whole year with what they already worked on, so they added the third encounter specifically which is why it's so different from the rest of the raid as the encounter actually feels like a raid, meanwhile the rest of the raid works on the same exact mechanic in the same simple ways with the addition of a useless wipe mechanic (which may or may not have been in the original dungeon). i cannot believe that Bungie, who only makes the best raids in all of gaming every year, can make such a joke of a raid in one of the biggest and most important expansions on their roadmap. and as long as we don't get any similar situation like this, where an expansion is split in half, i believe that Root of Nightmares will never happen ever again. hell, even the mechanic is designed to be completed by a single person, that's not a raid, just a glorified dungeon.

Way I see it, it all hinges on Final Shape. Right now, Destiny is Bungie’s bread and butter. If they can make a great, fresh, new IP to keep the ship afloat, good for them. But, even if Final Shape is the best story, and a great climax to this saga, there’s still a high chance, we will see a mass exodus of Destiny Veterans leaving the franchise for other games. For them, this may be the end of their (10 year) journey. But, there may still be a large number of New Lights, and a few million Destiny vets staying. After this saga, I will say it would be in Bungie’s best interest to revamp the New Light expirnce. Then again, they could add the Beyond Light, Lightfall, and Final Shape campaigns to the legacy timeline tab they have now available. For sake of longevity, and criticism, that’s what I think. They need to think about how to keep and introduce new players after this saga. Because there’s a chance after Final Shape, they’ll be more New Lights than vets.

I've been playing Destiny since year 1 D1. So far I've mostly played along through the seasons of D2, I've missed a few seasons here and there, and regretted not getting everything in that season which I found quite upsetting for myself. I've tried very to complete and gain everything that the game offers, I loved my time playing this marvel of a game. In D2 I've mostly been solo, so I have missed out on quite a few activities, and rewards in the game. But now with how this game is coming to I find myself not really caring about the story anymore, moreover just trying for those new deep sights weapons. I find myself using destiny 2 as combat Sim, and just testing builds, and playing guardian fashion all the time now always questioning what looks better. Now byf I'd sole reason I'm interested in story anymore. Thank you so much for making all this amazing content Byf.

Welcome back Oh Honored Lore Keeper, I would like to say that I am happy to hear that you are doing well and that you have mostly recovered. Your voice in the lore community has been greatly missed as it has been something that has been guiding us guardians now for almost a decade now. I personally have been listening to your works since I started as a guardian way back towards the beginning of destiny1. Our community has cherished all of the milestones that you have gone through and the ones that you will lead on into the future. Whilst I may be one voice, I am excited to see what the future holds for the channel. And as for bridging into other games to study the lore of, well Id personally enjoy hearing you make an in depth study of the lore of Warframe. The game has expanded into much more interesting facets from when you had last covered it and I have a feeling that your voice would help many guardians and young tenno fall in love with the complex and multiversal worlds that currently are being explored within Warframe

Hey Byf, so glad to hear your voice again! Back in D1, in the early days you had some videos where you opened up packages and engrams and looked at the weapon rolls you got. I'd love to see you do something similar. Maybe open up seasonal engrams or buy weapons at the end of raids. I think it could be fun and lighthearted content. Also, I would love to see you play trials with unknown player as well as others. The Frostbolt and ZK video was pretty fun as well. Another cool thing would be to see you, myelin, and some other lore guys team up to do a dungeon or raid run. You could even do some PvP games and go over the lore of certain maps and stuff. Just a few suggestions from someone who loves the content and is definitely not a content creator. Best wishes to you and your family and I hope you have a wonderful new year.

First off happy to see you return Byf and happy that the community came together and supported you. Second i will say that lightfall really was a huge let down. Lets not forget the hype for LF was huge. We just watched the best cutscene and finale for WQ stakes were high, Rasputin defined his own fate and sacraficed himself, and the traveler made its last stand. But overrall i feel that this failure was of bungie's higher up decision to split Saga's finale into two expansions and screw its writers and developers over. I will always say that destiny is a gold mine of quality well made art, story, and music. Even if lightfall fell in its story telling the writers at bungie are talanted. Taranis a character who is brand new to us players and is showen only in one cutscene and has few lines made the players feel for the wish making dragons and have respect for him. Third Rest in peace the legend Lance reddick know that your role as zavala will be honored and continue through Keith David.
