I still hold out a hope that Amanda will return as a Guardian, specifically a Titan. If it can happen for Crow it can happen for her. With Zavala’s light now gone and his eventual need to retire, we might have ourselves the perfect new candidate for Titan Vanguard. I lost my Mom in November. The line when Mara and Crow talk about his grief over Amanda, "She was a sunrise" still breaks me. That whole conversation feels much more meaningful now that I have been dealing with that raw, violent grief that they speak of. I've always loved the story that Destiny provides, I just didn't expect to surprise me again after hearing old dialogue. It also made The Final Shape hit much harder for me than I thought it would. I know its probably my own emotions mixed with Destiny nostalgia which let me really connect with it but I thought that the story was very well done. Especially Zavala. I understand why he has such a hard time letting go. I'm just glad they went this direction in the Final Shape as a whole

Part of me is surprised that no one fell to temptation. While each character had immediate and compelling reasons for rejecting the Witness, I wonder how much Cayde’s return bolstered their resistance even further. Cayde confirmed an afterlife for Guardians. It might not be an active one, but it’s a peaceful, blissful state that he could remember when he was brought back. Imagine if that didn’t exist. We would’ve faced the prospect of finality, a calcified universe, and that’s terrifying. But then the Witness would come, promising that we would be frozen in time, yeah, but we’d be frozen at the happiest moment in our lives. If we thought death was the end, that there’s nothing after it, then that would be the same outcome as the final shape. But only if death is the end. In other words, imagine a god comes along and tells you that you’re going to die, but it can decide when you’ll die and make it so that you’ll die happy and with all your wishes fulfilled. That’s appealing… unless you know that death is not the end, that there’s something good after it, and that what this god is offering would actually destroy what comes after death. Then you are more likely to reject it, because you can only experience that afterlife if you deny that god. Likewise, if you knew that the afterlife was unending torment, you’d be more likely to take the deal. Fighting to defend complexity and the possibilities of life and entropy is cool and all, but unless you’re completely selfless in the service of an esoteric concept, you probably want to be happy and avoid suffering. Again, the characters had plenty of other, simpler reasons to deny the Witness. But if I were one of them, it’d be nice to know that even after my final death, there’s something good and that’s worth fighting for.

I think they need to do a set of 3 weekly missions and each week it will move up one, so like 1-2-3 and those are the first missions of say the red war. Then after a week, it shifts to 2-3-4, then next week 3-4-5. That way ppl can experience all the history, do it via the sundial, and have it go thru curse of Osiris, then warmind, then the seasons when that first got introduced. Come on Bungie…

I didn't see Amanda's death as a necessity, I saw it more as a "she's not in the game much so it saves Bungie some money by letting Courtenay Taylor go."

Maybe the Witness promised to bring her back and then freeze them in their reunion hug before she realizes what's really going on. So, when the Witness is ready to finalize everything, it resurrects Amanda in front of Crow, and then, while she's just confused and before she realizes what's wrong, Crow pulls her into a hug (which she would probably give back because she doesn't know what just happened). Then, the Final Shape occurs, freezing Crow in a moment of reuniting with the woman he loved.

Ok, I figured something out Byf that most won't believe but maybe you'll see the connection. The Ascendant plane is literally the memory of the universe inside of The Veil. Throne worlds are pocket cysts. Will and memory manifest throughout the darkness. An echo of themselves preserved. This is why areas people think about are stronger in the Ascendant realm. Area compressed. That is why troop movement is so effective between. You can walk Vast distances between the stars in a moment because those areas are not remembered. Or they are a shallow memory. Compressed.

It is a clear mechanism that we are using a fungus to traverse locations that are otherwise impossible. It is a mycelial network. That is confirmed by Callus. That is exactly how The Veil is described. You are temporarily entering the Akashic record of the universe inside of The Veil or a smaller version inside of Egregore. Throne worlds or pocket cysts make sense with this as you are essentially forcing a perfect isolated domain for your memory after death. We know this to be inside of The Ascendant Plane. All other dead things go to The Veil other than Ghosts and Guardians. Why wouldn't they? They established a domain of self outside of the whole of the record. A kingdom inside of the memory of the universe.

I do find it strange that, for people who live for centuries, are still on the market but no one is shopping. Like, okay, we had Zavala and Safiyah, and we have more, but we have not really explored much of the emotional stories of Guardians, at least, not in a way that actually grew into something new. Amanda and Crow were definitely something, not officially, but it was something I think. For all the great things about Destiny and its mysteries unravelled since 2014...it lacked that aspect of humanity and, ironically, something essential to all life - connection. Destiny is a tapestry, like 40k or Star Wars, just waiting to open its many many doors to explore all genres. Gangs below the Last City. Cosmic horror in Darkness corrupted Star Systems. Tragedy, Comedy, parody, all that good stuff.

I think it's probably because older guardians are generally adverse to forming connections, and we mostly interact with older guardians. Civilians are going to wither away while their lightbearer partner remains, and guardians are always at risk of their final death nowadays. And well, loss is more painful than any wound.

If you look around we do have relationships almost across the board for core characters. Most prominently saint and Osiris but also ana has a named girlfriend that she’s talked about introducing to Elsie. Devrim has his boyfriend that he talked about on length in defiance. Mara had Sjur Eido, Zavala had Safiyah, Crow had Amanda. There’s even possible romantic implications between Zavala and Caital if you want to go there, there was one voice line this dlc about ‘celebration’ between them which seemed implicit in a sense. I almost even forgot you’ve still got whatever is going on with Eris and Drifter. Destiny has explored the difficulties of building and having a relationship in the situation our characters find them in on multiple occasions
