Shadowkeep's campaign content relies heavily on nostalgia and fanservice; the whole concept of "Nightmares" is just another way to spin up old content bosses, like Crota, Ghaul, Fanatic, etc. I assume they expected fans to react to it in, say, the way Star Wars fans (initially) reacted to The Force Awakens -- lots of nostalgic imagery, bringing back good memories, while exploring something new. But it doesn't work. It doesn't work, because Destiny as a game is based on replaying old content. It would have meant more to see Crota in Shadowkeep, if we hadn't blown him up 4000 times when we were all doing Dark Below for the array of raid gear. It would have meant more to see Ghaul, if he wasn't an ultimately boring boss fight that we already did quite a few times for the first Solstice event in D2. It would have meant more to see the Fanatic if we didn't fight him regularly in our current strike playlist, groaning once the strike started, because we dreaded IMMUNE IMMUNE IMMUNE.

Plus, for the Oryx thing, iirc not a single part of that has actually been done physically yet. Automatically assuming that it has been done already would suggest that Oryx is either revived or permanently dead, but we don't know. And we can't know because it's a good idea to assume that it would become very clear which is the case no matter what happens.

I was a pretty hardcore fan untill shadowkeep. It ruined the game imo. I'm not a fan of the new armor system. It seems unnecessarily complicated. The weapon "balances" made primaries I Like weaker and garbage fusions stronger. The battle pass was a horrible addition. The new UI is horrible too. They tried to re-invent the game and it failed.

@@Gr4veM1nd lmao there's another half to the game than just endgame. Raids are cool and fun but aren't rewarding anyways. Dungeons are also really cool but don't offer any unique rewards. Trials is actually terrible. He didn't give a completely negative review. He gave credit where credit was due and offered criticism. The story was very bad, there was no vendor refresh which makes the loot feel stale, the moon returning isn't a novelty it's just the same old stuff, and eververse gets as much or even more content than the game itself. Most players are casual players. When you can't please a casual player then there is a problem.

Looking back, there was a time in Destiny 2 where the game was the best it ever was - and that was during the final season of Shadowkeep, Season of Arrivals. We had the Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, Forsaken, and Shadowkeep Campaigns. We had Forges, Gambit Prime, Menagerie, and all the seasons in Shadowkeep. We also had no sunsetting (yet). We had no content-vaulting... except the seasons expired. We had 9 destinations. We had all 6 Gambit maps. We had the most number of PvP maps we had. Armor 2.0 was a welcome addition to the game. New Light was good back then. We had like 16-17 strikes. We still had cool missions like The Whisper, and Zero Hour. We had nightmare hunts and lots of collectibles on Luna and in the Dreaming City. You still had all the exotic weapon quests from the first 3 years. Finally, Shadowkeep, Season of the Worthy and Season of Arrivals was my favorite story - the Pyramids were finally here! The possibilities were endless. I guess what I am trying to say - we had more "stuff" to do than at any other time in Destiny. Every expansion since then has only scaled the game back just as much as it added. At the end of Shadowkeep/Season of Arrivals we essentially lost "half"... maybe 40% is more accurate... of the game. It never get any bigger. It has oscillated in size but was never as big as it was then.

Honestly some of my best experiences in destiny has just been playing with friends and grinding for gear. I could give less of a shit about the lore although I do watch a byf video from time to time. Interacting with a community and meeting so many people over the last 6 years has made this game what it is for me. In an interview they asked a bungie dev what's the best platform to play D2 on and he replied "Where your friends are". That statement definitely holds true and it's probably why lots of my relationships include destiny. This game has allowed me to meet many kind and wonderful people and that's probably why I'm still coughing up 40 bucks everytime bungie releases content. I'm truly thankful to the community for this half a decade of fun.

The problem with all of these publishers trying to turn every game into a "live service" is that everyone, no matter who they are, only has 24 hours in a day. These studios want everyone to play their games four hours every single day, and to constantly spend money on their subscriptions, microtransactions, expansions, loot boxes, and so on. There are only so many "whales" (as the industry calls them), and those whales can only invest so much of their time and money into games. Everyone who's already playing Game A simply doesn't have the time or money to _also_ play Game B, Game C, Game D, and so on. So if publishers keep making every game into a live service, the monetary growth simply won't be sustainable just because the audience will be spread too thin. This will lead to an industry crash because investors don't want to invest in something that stays at the same value. Investors want to see constant growth. They want these publishers to pull in more and more money. These publishers will inevitably hit a ceiling, and when that happens, the investors will sell their shares, and these publishers will lose tons of capital. This will lead to downsizing. Smaller studios owned by major publishers will get shut down as publishers scramble to pool all of their resources into keeping their big moneymakers afloat. There will be fewer games in the AAA space, and they will become increasingly uniform and risk-adverse.

I played Destiny 2 when I got it with PS Plus. Sucks that I had to uninstall it for God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn but i had a great experience. I would suggest you don't go into team deathmatches since everyone else has superior gear and go around certain locations with a team so grinding wouldn't be a pain in the ass.

​@Zenith ik its been 4 weeks but i feel very strongly about this game. I believe that the reason why it seems like the story in destiny is really bad is because of who published it. Activision had influence since day 0 and I believe they were the reason why there were MASSIVE changes from the original storyline that Bungie wanted. We all know that bungie loves to create a deep and meaningful story told in a beautiful universe as created the Halo franchise however I think that what they WANTED to create was cut because Activision was treating Destiny like a call of duty game, with most of the players being fairly casual. I think it works well in call of duty because they have campaign and multiplayer separate: you can play hundreds of hours of COD without touching the storyline if you want to but its still there for those who want it. I think they thought that since Destiny would need to be changed at a fundamental level for it to be structured like this, they attempted to soften the story so that people who were more casual and more interested in PVP (like a cod game) could play a little of the story and then get into the PVP without being overwhelmed by a story they didn't care about. So most of the story is just "there is bad darkness shoot shoot go here shoot darkness alien kill" when actually there is a universe large and expansive enough to be compared with the lord of the rings franchise. Since activision didn't want to potentially scare off casual players they forced Bungie into cutting large amounts of content, causing people to quit, get fired, leave the project, speak out against the new course of the game, etc, when it was first being developed. But Bungie still had all this story and universe so they shared it the only way they were allowed to, through grimoir cards, the app and now through character dialogue and collectibles. But now that Activision is gone, I feel like now Bungie is in a difficult situation where they don't want to radically change the game but they also want to include their original vision. I think that they also want to put a larger emphasis on story but are having a hard time doing so because the community expects new content frequently and it's hard to create large story-rich expansions when your community wants it done NOW and when your team isn't experienced at making it. Also Bungie knows DAMN WELL that their current community does not want to read large paragraphs (ironic considering my current situation) and so they really can't just add a "LORE" tab FILLED with information on the history of Sword logic and its relationship with the Guardians because nobody would read it except for the people who already go online to read the lore. The complaints about destiny not having a lore tab is ONLY from people who wouldn't have read it anyway because they would rather press RB and read half a sentence before getting bored instead of googling Destinypedia and reading half a sentence before getting bored. While I agree it would be nice, it's not a necessity because atm I can just press shift+tab and go to the wiki page.

Galen with how things have been going I’m honestly slowly losing hope for Bungie to be the company they used to be. They had ample opportunity to give us something but Destiny still feels very half-ass’d and it’s annoying me. I don’t want to have all the story to be told through stupid cards, if I wanted to do that I’d buy a book that extends the universe or tells it in better detail like the Halo books. They have the capacity and capability to tell a good story through gameplay and cut scenes.to make the missions more fun and elongated than “3-5 mission ‘expansions’”, and give us a lot of content that holds us more than just a couple days or weeks. I find myself playing Destiny less and less due to the annoyance of quests just becoming trickled or being padded out for a “meh” reward or a good reward that doesn’t feel as compelling because of the crap you had to go through for it. I’m holding on only BARELY, but soon Bungie is just going to fade into being another EA or Activision if this continues.

The finishers are like the antithesis of Doom's Glory Kills. There's no incentive to do so i.e. Health, Ammo, Shields, etc. There's only one finisher animation at a time rather than a multitude of it randomized for every enemy type, and the movement isn't fast enough to justify risking going up close to an enemy.

@Logan Aucoin the worms just make the hive more powerful not allow them to use the sword logic, The vex are even able to use the sword logic and they don't have any worms
