Bellular gotta get that drama in. The server issues lasted 12 hours on the launch of their most anticipated expansion to date. I've dealt with worse problems in the golden age of both WoW and FFXIV. It's the nature of a massive multiplayer game. The real news is that Bungie actually stuck the landing and Final Shape has been widely regarded as one of their best expansions. Bungie has some of the best developers in the industry and it is amazing what they are capable of when they aren't being constantly constrained by the suits. Lightfall was a suit expansion, Final Shape is the developer's expansion. Hopefully this massive shift in sentiment finally slaps the suits in the face or just gets Sony to accept that management is absolutely the problem at Bungie.

TBH the campaign, the story, the gameplay, it's all so bland. It's the video game version of the ol' TV show Lost. It's all plot threads with little to no pay off for any of it... Even the raids are boring affairs with very specific esoteric requirements to complete them. All they can think of for a raid boss is 'it's invincible unless ______'. Sorry, I'm resentful at how much time I spent trying to like the game because friends play it.

The core of destiny is fantastic, it's full of runny jumpy shooty goodness. It's really fun just to _play._ But it wastes your time with slightly too much grind, bad rng, and then there'd the godawful monetisation and fomo. Also Bungie haven't done the best job hitting the fun/difficulty sweet spot in the last few years, their campaigns tend to spike upwards in toughness unexpectedly in weird places. It just gets in It's own way, it can't destiny properly because It's trying too hard to destiny. I haven't played in 6 or 7 months, and I don't yet know if I'll pick up the final shape yet. I beat the campaign on launch day (somehow) and the campaign really is an achievement. It translates the mechanics usually reserved for raids, dungeons, and exotic quests into more forgiving forms, giving a more accurate picture of high level content in its most accessible gameplay. With my Celestial Nighthawk build, I was basically able to turn the campaign into a puzzle game as a result. On top of that, the story goes in such an unexpected direction. It'd be much too easy to use all the modified and reused assets as a nostalgia play and walk down memory lane, but everything is poisoned and evil. Cayde wants to be dead again and is only sticking around out of love for his friends. Ikora is desperately trying to make sure she doesn't lose anyone else. Zavala is just...broken. Mix that with an embrace of symbolic storytelling in most cutscenes and this expansion has a mood and tempo unlike anything Destiny has ever made.

I get more content and playtime for that $100 than I would with any other game out there. I play roughly 1000 hours a year or so, FAR more then I get out of any other game. I love single player games like God of War, Horizon, Tears of the Kingdom, Elden Ring ect, and I'm happy to pay the $70 for those. But in each of those at most, I get 100 hours of content, with Destiny I get 1000 for $100. Now, some years are definitely better than others, but even at its worst, I get more than my money's worth(besides maybe Curse of Osiris). It used to be $60 for a full year, ie Forsaken, and that was an absolute steal, but even at $100 I feel I get more than enough content throughout the year for the price.

They are evolving, just backwards. Cue CCP games back around 2006, they have decided to decrease the daily downtime (in which they did server restarts and other maintenance) in eve-online from the usual 1 hour, and in a year or 2 they halved it, also aimed to improve major content drops because we had the saying "patch day, no play" as the game was practically unplayable on the day of major content drops, and they also improved that so the disruptions only lasted for a couple hours at most. Then cue present day Bungie which is massive compared to that small Icelandic developer, armed with the almost 2 decades of advancements in IT compared to them: takes the whole game offline for a day, yet it still craps the bed for an another 10 hours after launch, with all the improvements they supposedly put in place after Lightfall...

I’ve always loved the gun play in this game and probably always will, but I don’t understand how they expect people to keep coming back every season when they have to buy the current DLC, the season pass, the dungeon keys and some times a 2nd event season pass. Me and my mates used to always play this game as a 6 man but it’s just impossible to convince them to play because of how they set up the monetisation. I was addicted to Destiny 1, and try as I might, they have undergone too many facelifts to resurrect the carcass of Destiny 2. I can't justify this expansion at full price for myself. They are in a hard spot too. No more new story means less players buying cosmetics when they tire of the content. The UI for even a returning player is overwhelming and it's hard to tell where people actually are to play with. PVP has been stale forever and Marathon is a PVP game, which is honestly worrying.

At around 8k hours in the game i can safely say it's been a pretty standard expansion launch hardware wise: Bungie promise they've sorted the servers but they always crash and are always up again quickly. It's been the same since Curse of Osiris. - Gameplay is great - FX Engine upgrades look fantastic - UI / Quest improvements are awesome - Prismatic is fun - New area is eye-watering - Many more good things Worth a look if you're a D2 vet.

You know with Bungie, you would think they've had 10 years. a whole DECADE to figure it out and they still couldnt get the game stable enough to launch. some people took off work for that. I wish I cared about The Final Shape but I can't justify purchasing a game that I had so much paid content removed from.

Yeah, I had an exam on the day of the Final Shape release, plus I live in Australia, so by the time I got into play, my experience was buttery smooth. Pretty good dlc, though I wish they had more of an explanation on what the Traveler actually is and where it comes from, but they could be saving that for a later time because it is one of the largest mysteries in the franchise.

At this point, it would be amazing if someone was able to just gather all the content from all seasons and expansions , and release the game similar to how fallout 4 works where you can download expansions and delete them after done playing. have the seasons cut into acts where after you complete and act, you can move onto the next with a menu option to revisit past chapters. Also being able to play offline during solo content like cod back in the day, would make that game worth so much money

I was playing Destiny 2 up until the release, but I didn't buy the expansion, no plans to do so since I don't think it's worth the price tag, and I stopped playing as with the new over the top subclass and exotics, there's really no point playing without the expansion. Into the Light was definitely the best Destiny has been imo. Bungie banking on Marathon is still crazy to me, how do they expect to make successful pvp only game when Destiny 2 pvp is the worst shooter pvp I've ever played, including hard p2w stuff like Crossfire EU, game that sells straight up better weapons at premium and is also full of cheaters who don't get banned if they buy p2w weapons, instead they get "banned" with their account renamed to string of numbers and they can still play, talked to some of them personally as multiple unnamed accounts with VVIP (yes, that's what it's called) weapons peaked my interest, some of them I've known under the old name.

Can we all just understand that after so many bad seasons and expansions after The Forsaken, The Final Shape just seems like the best expansion ever. All content creators praise The Final Shape. It is their work. So it is just natural to hype this up. The story is just like The Red War. Go here and there and find your Vanguard companions and find a way to defeat the bad guy. And many aspects are playing on memories from a 10 year long story. Cayde-6 is there because players like him. Going back to familiar locations also plays on memories because you relate to that sort of stuff. Like the place where our ghost found us. Besides that, the expansion has a lot of stuff to do within the Pale Heart and many secrets to uncover. The Final Shape is a solid expansion, but more a 7/10.

I mean I’m glad someone actually mentioned server issues as being caused by so many players hopping in all at the same time. Barely anyone in the D2 LFG Discord even acknowledged that it was the fact everyone was trying to play at once, where there were more players than you’d expect at most any other time. Of course I can’t really talk about that stuff much anymore. I got too hyped once Excision dropped and hyped about the cutscene in the wrong channel and got banned on the spot so rip

Most of the story really isn't in the cinematics. It's in the dialogue exchanges during the gameplay the shock and feel of the traveler as you fight inside it within the overthrow activity and hear it bray and scream in its horrific ethereal fashion. The cinematics communicate some important information, but all of the nitty gritty details is within the character exchanges mid mission.

To argue the “skipping cutscene” bug, you can just replay the mission after on normal difficulty. On the “server queue” issue, it’s a live service game. Yes the company should have it fixed before the update, but we have scene it with many live service games as of recently. They might just need Sony to come in and help them more on the live service part. They might be able to raise the player counts allowed for the game in preparation for situations like this. Sony has gave them their space with this game, but in future Bungie titles they might step more into the project.

The servers were rough for the first half of yesterday but things dramatically improved after the rolling restart. The servers are also my single complaint about the expac. This is, without a doubt, the best story in Destiny history. It easily blows everything else out of the water. Not only that but the patrol zone is incredible, so beautiful and easily the size of two normal patrol zones. The post campaign is good, the exotics are fun/good, the legendary weapons are good, prismatic is phenomenal, the new faction is fantastic. If the raid is good this is easily the best expac the franchise has ever seen.

Destiny's problems are a little lingering in the background. it's kind of hard to get back into the game when seasonal content keeps pushing a story forward and there's no really way to experience it when they're over, still. Like, say the post patch story content in FFXIV just stopped being there. Because at the end of the day, we've all heard this same song and dance with most expansions for Destiny. Forsaken? Banger. The Witch Queen? Banger. Still didn't keep people playing the game despite content creators and reviewers pushing the game so hard.

This time campaign is really good and there is a good foundation for long-term fun gameplay-wise because of the way new subclasses work.

I loved Halo back in the day but never had a chance to get into Destiny 1 or 2 until the last few years. I was really excited to play through a decades worth of Bungie story content, thinking it would be a similar journey to people today playing Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST then Reach in a row, then I found out some about how Destiny actually works and... well. The whole thing was very disappointing to say the least. Still, hopefully one day they'll be able to match all the story content together and sell it as a standalone experience, though I have no doubt it won't be for many years to say the least.

They make investing into Destiny cost a lot of money. And they added p2w when they said they never would. They bought this on themselves. Part of me is glad they are dropping in value so it will give them a reality check that they aren't invincible.

I really dont like the new changes. So many vendor bounties are gone, pathfinder forces pvp and gambit play on certain rolls. I caved and reset it 3 times, very limited xp gain. The level progression of the season pass is horrible. I played old campaign missions on my hunter (forsaken, beyond light) and grinded banchie, edz and any other available bounties, max xp boost on my ghost, barely any level progression! I completely grinded out the previous season pass on my girlfriends xbox and character in a matter of no time due to the abundance of bounties and things to do.
