Like Vaush said he doesn't really do moderating at all, he's more of a host. A good moderator of a debate will fact-check what's being said, and call out any bullshit. Moderating isn't claiming neutrality or impartiality by not challenging anything that's being said on either side that is just plain wrong, at that point all you're doing is just inadvertently (or deliberately) platforming propagandists because the side that is factually wrong will never engage in good-faith arguments or respect the rules of a debate.

Additional point with regards to Stepan Bandera: his biggest accomplishment which is celebrated today is declaration of independence during the Nazi occupation of Ukraine, for which he was promptly imprisoned. He gained fame and became the symbole of national independence movement during the 30s as a result of Polish trials against him and other conspirators (because Ukraine was also occupied by Poland at that point… at least from the perspective of the Ukrainians in what is known today as west Ukraine). He was racist towards Jews and Poles though, not gonna deny that. And was a fan of integral nationalism of Doncov (Донцов), which is pretty gruesome as well. But taken out of context his figure and it's popularity can't be judged properly, imho.
@kyrylomorozov96372 жыл бұрын
Our history is riddled with conflicting figures who had to do horrible stuff for the sake of liberation and to fight off equally horrible assimilation. Doesn't mean that they should be paraded as saints, of course, but understanding the context of the liberation struggle is necessary to speak about the political leanings of Ukraine today without bias. Unfortunately, the shift in culture due to agression of Russia has resulted in certain Ukrainian historical figures, who also did the upmost best for the independence of Ukraine albeit through more democratic means, being abandoned as a result of them not fitting the narrative of the "Eternal Bloody Struggle against Russia", or, you know, them often times being socialist because admitting that would mean somehow not demonizing USSR which is not in fashion understandably so. The victims of information war if you will. But personally, I think that the only way for the Ukrainian society to move on and get a more sober look at it's history, is to put an end to Russian imperialism. Once the struggle with foreign nations trying to assimilate Ukraine stops, the need for Nationalistic icons will too.
@kyrylomorozov96372 жыл бұрын
The Odessa massacre being done by Azov is a great misrepresentation of the tragedy. It's far more difficult thant that unfortunately. More a series of unfortunate events that was most likely premeditated in some part by someone. Although it's true that the nationalists (not Azov though, it's like dude there are more than one Nationalistic organization in Ukraine) burned that house, at least it appears as such, some theories put it so that the fire started from within but they rarely hold ground after certain amount of scrutiny. Doesn't help that chief of police who was actively accused in not aiding in deescalation found asylum in Russia. A friend of the family died there actually so it hits close to home. He was extremely pro-russian and often called for violence against Ukrainian speakers. I still struggle to this day with how to process that event. It must be really funky looking inside Ukraine's politics from outside from the west's perspective. The truth is that in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus equally Nationalistic and Xenophobic ideas coming from pro-russian side have been tolerated for ages while the Ukrainians were demonized because of "Russian = good" status quo in eastern Europe carrying over from USSR, which kinda resulted in a lot of Ukrainians having sudden ideological whiplash when the Russia attacked in 2014 and especially now also. The bottom line is that imperialism always breeds radicalism. And Ukraine is no exception. Anyhow, I'll stop now. Just kinda rambling, that's it. P.S: Hopefully Azov does the good deed, defends Ukraine and the Nazis of Azov go into the ground doing the good deed.

Well most of the Easter European block countries celebrated Nazi's in some way after Hitler pushed into the Ussr. For an example, only recently in my country, Lithuania, a constitution and a declaration of independence made by a political party of guerrilla fighters against the Ussr was discredited as a real document because it featured a clause of accepting the conditions of Nazi Germany. Since the Ussr was the first and the much longer occupier, our countries simply chose the lesser of two evils (in their opinion) and collaborated with nazis in hopes of aquiring independence.
@kyrylomorozov96372 жыл бұрын
@@justass3001 Yeah, also and it's not much but: it took a while for ordinary people to realize the extent of the Nazi's evil. Germany had an effective propaganda that specifically targeted regions oppressed by USSR, which netted them quite a bit of success with the Finns, Ukrainians etc.
