27:38 in 1996-1999 Newly elected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a new policy following the many suicide attacks by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad since 1993, including a wave of suicide attacks prior to the Israeli elections of May 1996. Netanyahu declared a tit-for-tat policy which he termed "reciprocity," whereby Israel would not engage in the peace process if Arafat continued with what Netanyahu defined as the Palestinian revolving door policy, i.e., incitement and direct or indirect support of terrorism so that is why Netanyahu rejected the deal

Axe: "you make it sound like they are all Terrorists..." geez, yes, valid point. it would be really appreciated tho if you abide by it too. you made it sound like only innocent children were held up in prison. thats why Avi's point that was mentioned as response to your BS is much more valid. overall the discussion was good. but most of the points made were invalid and refuted in real time. i just wish people who support Palestinians would use their reason and scepticism on arguments from both sides. and not only be 100% sceptical on one side while being 100% gullible towards the other side.

Saying its not a "Jew thing" has some truth in the majority, however the minorities are not small and they DO consider it a "Jew thing". There has always been a "Jew thing" with Arabs in regards to Jews. The Hebron massacre, the banning of Jews from Arab countries, the active ethnic cleansing of Jews who stayed in Arab countries (after 1948), the social discrimination. As a Jewish man I see and feel these things. They are very real not just to me but every Jew.

Destiny, can you please please PLEASE for the love of all things good not concede to the point that the Jews who returned to the land are "European colonizers". That isn't what colonialism is, colonial theorists are turning in their graves due to these braindead lefties. Despite living in Europe for a long time, the returned Jews are still literally part of the indigenous haplogroup diaspora who was only so spread out via discrimination, ethnic cleansing and genocide. ESPECIALLY do not ever concede this point to the same people (like this guy) who believe that all Palestinians anywhere in the diaspora are still indigenous people who have an unlimited right of return to their homelands including when they have analogous backgrounds. It makes your footing look weak, you're making a concession where it makes no sense to and in their minds it is clearly justifying the "European colonizer v indigenous innocent lovely colonized" frame of reference that they live and die by. If you want to go down this road, AT LEAST force them to explain what they mean and how it doesn't apply to Palestinians or force them to be very specific about their definitions to determine whether you agree before you outright agree with the sentiment. A lot of these people literally do not know Jews are indigenous to that region at all, and the point that the are making is "European Jews never descended from this region, so they have no right to return to it" which is FALSE. Thank you and I love you buddy
@dgerch Жыл бұрын
Thank you. There is such overwhelming evidence that the Ashkenazi are descended from ancient Levantine populations. First and foremost, genetic testing confirms this but even if you were to dismiss the hard science, all historical records and common sense support this. The Khazar theory has long been debunked and Jews don't proselytize (evidenced by the fact that their population is a fraction of the size of the other Abrahamic religions). To paint these people as white colonizers would require you to dismiss science and somehow believe that Europe's Jewish population chose to convert WHILE being actively discouraged to convert from "authentic" Jews so they could be brutally persecuted in their "native" country. Why would they do that? It's nonsensical. The genetic provenance of Ashkenazi was only questioned after Modern Israel was established for the express purpose to delegitimize their claim on the land. It's a "theory" that belongs on the same shelf as Holocaust denial, blood libel and the Protocols of Zion. Do I think the oldest extant people from a region necessarily entitles them to the land? Of course not. My only point is that if the "Settler Colonist" meme is the premise of your argument, you need a new premise.

This is not an occupied territory. Gaza was taken from Egypt, the West Bank taken from Jordan and k both disputed land because of the 6-day war and as a result of it. People keep making errors, and these are basic things. As to ethnic cleansing, there is no one jew who lives in the West Bank under the control of the Palestinian Authority yet 20.000 of them go to work in Israel every day and we have also 2 million Israeli Arabs with rights like any jew or Christian and Muslim.
@dr.flywheel5493 Жыл бұрын
Both the regimes of Egypt and Jordan cringe upon the thought of getting Gaza and the "West Bank" back under their rule. Both regimes considered and continue to consider the residents of these areas problematic and even dangerous for their own regime stability. There is a reason why Jordan killed over 3000 Palestinians on Jordanian territory and expelled ten of thousands to Arab countries (see "Black September") in 1970. Egypt fears the renewed insurgency of the "Muslim Brotherhood" of which Hamas is an offspring. Note that the Muslim Brotherhood is the group that assassinated Egypt president Saadat on 6 October 1981, shortly after Saadat signed a peace accord with Israel. UN resolution 242 is a non-starter in today's reality and was never expected to work even at the time that it was published.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Israel's justification for the Occupation in the Gaza literally just the second intifada? Because that's a pretty fucking good justification, at least for a while. Assuming that's true, I can see how the occupation just kinda continues indefinitely since the occupation breeds more resentment and violence, which results in Israel cracking down harder and harder until we arrive at today, where Hamas' attack on 10/7 has directly caused Israel to invade Gaza and kill like 15,000 people so far. To me, it really does feel like Israel's aggression against Palestinians is pretty much always the result of some fucked shit that happened to them. We'd be looking at a very different world if the Palestinians were not regularly engaging in terrorism.

I don't think you're going to find unbiased sources, but the best I can do is be open about the bias and let you separate the wheat from the chaff. I found Andrew Sullivan's article "Why Sam Harris Won't Criticize Israel" informative toward my generally pro-Palestinian views. As the title suggests, this involves Sullivan making some comments/speculation about Harris' views that may not be accurate. That is certainly not the ideal environment to have a discussion. Nonetheless, I think that Sullivan's arguments on the actual substance of the conflict are very high quality. I'll try to summarize Sullivan's position: -Peace in this conflict requires a one-state solution or a two-state solution. -Israel isn't interested in a one-state solution because it would mean the end of Israel's status as a Jewish state. -Israel seems more interested in expanding its territory than engaging in good-faith efforts toward a two-state solution. -Hamas is worse than Israel in the abstract (i.e. what it would do if it held all the power). -Hamas does not hold all the power; Israel holds almost all of the power. So most of the responsibility to de-escalate the conflict rests with Israel. -Per the first three bullet points, Israel isn't making a good-faith effort to de-escalate the conflict. So Israel is mostly responsible for the current situation.

His end take about the JNF is wrong. Yes, there used to be a leftover from pre-1948 about the Jewish National Fund that was used to buy land for Jewish and help the first waves of Aliyah. It was kept as a non-binding term in Knesset for a while, and then in 2000 someone actually tried to use this basis to sue in the year 2000 a home sale in Katzir (a cooperative commune in Israel) to an Arab, which the Supreme Court denied. In 2012, it also forced the Knesset to rewrite the wordings of the law so it will not be interpreted as such. The real origin on these laws actually come from trying to define both Israel as both Jewish and Democratic, so there are still many, many wrinkles there that need to be ironed out. But to insinuate that Israel has different rights for its citizens is false, and exposes biases.

My thought when he made the point about not every single Arab country had Jewish pilgrims was that this might be influenced by how many Jews lived in those Arab countries to begin with. I mean. He takes the fact that if you list countries Jews came from not every Arab country might be on that list as evidence that therefore some Arab countries didn't expell Jews.But it's possible that the once that didnt expell Jews didn't really have a statistically noticable precence of Jews to begin with. Maybe those countries didnt have that because they where even worse for Jews. From that perspective its even possible that Arab countries that didnt have Jews move out of them might have been the worst countries for Jews. But I mean, I have no idea. I dont know anything about the history here, I'm just saying that from a logical perspective I would need to know more than just "Jews didnt move out of every single Arab country" to conclude that not every Arab country expelled Jews.

Axehole is kinda wrong about 242 being a call to go back to the 67 borders/ceasefire lines. It was left intentionally vauge so the borders could be negotiated. Though it was calling, in general, for Israel to give up the land it had occupied, just maybe not precisely all of it. Here is a quote from Lord Caradon, the sponsor and one of the authors of the resolution: "We didn't say there should be a withdrawal to the '67 line; we did not put the 'the' in, we did not say all the territories, deliberately.. We all knew - that the boundaries of '67 were not drawn as permanent frontiers, they were a cease-fire line of a couple of decades earlier... We did not say that the '67 boundaries must be forever; it would be insanity." This and more context you can find in the wikipedia article. His claims sound a lot like those made in the ADL backgrounder article on Article 242 and its post Yom Kippur war reaffirmation 338. Maybe best faith he got it where they got it from. Also his point about UN S/RES/242 being the international standard was poor. He wasn't only trying to convince Destiny that it was the international standard, it seems like he was trying to convince Destiny that it should be the moral center for judging this conflict? Something like that anyway. He also didn't seem to have any good backup for 242 being the starting place of all negotiations. It seemed more like that's where he thinks all negotiations should begin.

And from the framework that Destiny is establishing, I'm not really sure how you're supposed to argue against that even though at a gut check level it feels wrong. Thirdly: Trying to exterminate the populace is gonna have such huge backlash unless no one important cares, in which case the laws don't matter.

33:25 I’m not sure the point destiny is arguing here, the fact is the Israeli government allowed increased construction while negotiating with Palestinians for the very land construction is happening on so it’s either they didn’t want the peace plan to be successful or they were not expecting it to be successful so they didn’t stop new construction.
