I think it's because D1 was fresh at that time and nobody knew what kind of adventures lay ahead, once we got familiar with the "atmosphere", it all felt the same

D1 had mystery, exploration, and survival in its atmosphere. D2 has a heroic/action adventure feel to it which is fitting based on the story and how we obliterated all of our enemies and now we’re in an age of reclamation. I liked the feel of being on the cusp of extinction battling back the enemies that ravaged civilization, hence the “last safe city.”

Truth to be told, Destiny went downhill since Season of Opulence. It had some good moments with Season of Arrivals and a sort of second wind with Witch Queen, but after that it went downhill hard. We are playing for the lore and after Final Shape, with the new model, Destiny will be dead cuz they will make standalone seasons, so story won't connect and the game will lose it's strongest feature.
