kassouf in a reddit ama about those nonsense rules "...I think it's mainly Jack Effel, with the rulings and I had to stand my ground, and he knew I was a lawyer so I'm going to argue my case, I wasn't just going to back down. I think I was right in every ruling that came up, I think Daniel Negreanu in his podcast said that every time there was an altercation between William and Jack, William was right and Jack was wrong, so it's as simple as that. Which shouldn't be the case, I mean obviously he's the WSOP TD, he should be able to enforce his own rules and know what his own rules are, I think he effectively gave quite bad rulings that were completely wrong, unjustified, and weren't relevant to the actual situation at the time. So I think that's where he came under scrutiny, that's where other TD's came under scrutiny, not just Jack Effel, I think it was TD Robby who mentioned 'once you make a bet, you cannot talk to your opponent' and that's ridiculous, that's not the rule, and Negreanu picked up on that, said that's not a rule at all, what do you mean, that's nonsense. So they made up rules on the fly obviously because it was against me, they never said that to any other player in the tournament."

Just Nick I think this is the crux of the injustice people feel for this. Yeah, technically he broke the rules, rules which are kinda bs, but really, its the fact that these rules aren't evenly applied. They're selectively applied in only certain situations, and when that happens, it becomes not an adjucator of justice or fairness. Rather, it turns into a tool of manipulation, tilting the gamefield unfairly. And that makes people angry, because its bullshit.

People like Will Kassouf are exactly what poker needs. Poker used to be cool and filled with pros who had personalities and flair. Nowadays it's just socially awkward stats geeks who can't look an interviewer in the eye. Poker needs more people with personalities and who actually talk.

You're not folding top set in that spot. Even if you knew he had a straight you have odds to call. The only time you could fold in this spot is if there was some crazy pay out structure in the tournament that was giving you insane ICM pressure.

36:09 leading out of position on the turn is definitely not better most of the time. Especially if you put Kassouf on a hand like 98s, you want him to keep bluffing. Checking is the right play, and Kassouf is also correct for checking back the turn. You're being results oriented if you feel like checking out of position was incorrect because Kassouf didn't bet with a worse hand. And you are indeed a shitter if you are betting turn and river in Kassoufs spot. 46:00 best situation Kassouf can be is in a flip. You have to calculate ICM to determine if the call is correct. 52:11 your bet on the button was fine and fold was obviously good. The only thing about the top set hand is you are holding a diamond and he 4 bets you this deep you can consider folding. It's obviously not an easy fold, but it's unlikely an overpair is 4betting on this board and when you hold a diamond he is less likely to be bluffing with a hand like AKs. A hand like 45 shouldn't be raising like this either.

People have tried that before, you have to sign paperwork when entering the tournament saying you will show your cards to the camera. There really in no down side. If you're at the level where you're playing against people that have studed your previous tournaments, then you should be playing at the level where you can use that information to bluff.

35:00 it was pretty obvious for kassouf that the opponent could have an ace on the turn or at least in that 'range', generally betting when you hit something is the better choice but i agree with you when you play in this scenario it may could help to check, still i think betting strangely (either big or small) could even look weaker than checking. btw you say on the river he should bet so he wont reveal his bluff, he had top pair on the flop so its not really a bluff more like a agressive played Q10 on pre and flop. all in all kassouf did play very good on this tourney and wosp invented fucking cheap rules.. i really dont get this social justice poker from a reddit ama from kassouf 'Um...I like to do my betting, so I'll bet my privilege rather than check it, I don't think I need to check my privilege, I know where I stand on the privilege front, so I think I'll bet my privilege all day long to get maximum value from my opponents'

To hide tells, play enough and you can see their cards from very slight reactions. So you wanna "muck"(not show)to prevent them from learning your "tells" small portion of Texas holdem is luck, if you can get in their head you can win with a 9 high because they folded the winner.

I've never played poker in my life so I might be missing some (/a lot of) nuance here, but annoying/taunting your opponents to make them play suboptimally seems like a really shitty thing to be a core part of a professional sport. Is there just not enough content in the sport otherwise or why is essentially bad sportsmanship thought of as essential to Poker? I honestly don't have a very strong opinion on the topic but the whole thing seems rather bizarre.

So in starcraft, when someone says "pp someone at door". Is it just "part of the game" if I wait 5 seconds then unpause? I think the gold analogy was also apt.
