Latavia had to make some tough decisions as a CHILD--choices no teenager should have to make. She raises a conversation about the adultification of Black girls and boys. Latavia was not responsible for her mother's livelihood and I appreciate how she responded to the question regarding her mom. Latavia not singing anymore is a trauma response. Singing probably brings up a lot of the negative things she experienced in the industry. Its probably too painful for her to sing anymore. LaTavia We Are Rooting For You!!! ❤
@justuswhite8803 Жыл бұрын
How can you say it’s a trauma response? I’ve literally seen an interview of her while in DC and she mentioned that while the members argued they never centered around roles in the position in regard to Bey singing lead. She specifically said everyone knew their roles and they were okay with it, so she isn’t personally as attached to singing as she was to her relationships in the group. She didn’t stop due to trauma, she mentions growing up her main objective wasn’t to sing and it just happened when the chapter closed she could focus on other things without it being due to trauma. Please don’t equate everything one does to trauma because it takes away from the person genuine interest and life and invalidates her feelings.
@gmarie598 Жыл бұрын
@@justuswhite8803 I'm not equating everything to trauma but it does play a role in why she doesn't sing. Media training is not avoiding questions, it’s responding in a way that gives your audience value while respecting boundaries. I was confused why she accepted the interview, for a 27 year story, she seemed a bit salty. But, she seemed to lighten up as the interview progressed. This interview was an opportunity for us to get to know her, some of her challenges and her current projects. Honestly, I didn’t really follow DC members personal lives in the early years although they were from my backyard (I lived in HTown). I would have loved to hear her story but I didn’t feel like she was open. To close out, media training also means assuming the audience does not know your story. The statement, I’ve talked about this enough… was disconcerting. I do appreciate her being more open while sharing her personal struggle with drugs and father issues. Carlos tried with the deep dive but she wasn’t receptive at all. I believe she needs to heal more. The defensive back answers was hard to watch. Telling Carlos “you can ask them”, “I’m human” and other closed off answers were difficult. It’s an interview and I can understand that you might not want to share but you know the audience wants to hear about that. If you don’t want to share that’s fine. Say that. Carlos knows you we don’t! But I will give her grace as I believe she hasn’t totally healed as yet and is now learning to sit in her truth as she is here talking with Carlos. I do think only Carlos could handle this interview because baby! That attitude, head bobbing, next answer dismissiveness would if either irritated, angered or intimidated another interviewer! Kudos to you Carlos!

This is the first interview of hers I’m seeing. Quite annoying how she doesn’t want to answer anything because she’s “answered it before”. As if I’m about to go watch 5 other interviews to get the answers. She doesn’t think she’s bitter but that’s definitely how it comes off. When you’re healed you can talk about it, not say “next question” for everything.

I will give Latavia grace because she was a teenager during the Destiny Child’s era. It had to be hard for her during that time. She was young. However, she isn’t ready for interviews and that’s ok. She should not agree to interviews unless she is ready to be open. 🤷🏽♀️

I’m going to disagree simply because, the exact questions she’s skipping are the ones ppl were and are currently dragging her for on twitter and telling her to “get over it” and she’s gonna “mess up her bag” and etc. but I think she just doesn’t want to throw anybody else under the bus while telling her story even tho you can tell she’s still hurt. I feel like she wants to talk about it but the backlash might be overwhelming.

After 27 years, I can tell she is still hurt and not healed 100 percent from this. Even though she said she'd been asked the same questions, there's an audience that hasn't heard your answers and your pov.
