Tikur Sew actually translates to "Black person" or "Black man" but for this song, Teddy talks about King (Negus) Minilik in the first verse, then talks about how his wife Queen Taytu was also leading troops in the last verse. So Tikur Sew refers to both of them in this song. If we want to be specific, Black Man would be "Tikur Wend/Sew" while it's "Tikur Set" for Black Woman. This song refers to the Battle of Adwa which was the first Italo-Ethiopian War. The Ethiopian forces defeated the Italian invading force on Sunday 1 March 1896, near the town of Adwa. It’s called Adwa Del (Adwa Victory). Adwa became a pre-eminent symbol of pan-Africanism and secured Ethiopian sovereignty until the Second Italo-Ethiopian War forty years later (Italy was embarrassed by the defeat of their ancestors by Africans, which they saw as inferior), Where Italy occupied Ethiopia for 5 years before they were defeated again.

In this war, all men and women of the country stood up from all directions and all parts of the country to defend the dignity of their own country, with only traditional weapons.
