Yeah, that's what my ex did. Once when I was working for 3 hours and the babysitter had called off he had to stay alone with our children. When I got home they had locked themselves in a room for the last couple hours, oldest caring for the baby because my husband had thrown a chair. There was 0 question when we divorced that he would never be alone with the children and after all this time I realize that's why he threw the chair. I think she feels stuck now that she has 3 children. But he clearly said that he hasn’t found the person he wants to marry. So he basically just told her that she’s placeholder. You should NEVER have to force anyone into something that they truly don’t want to do. Why would you even want to live with the possible thought that this person didn’t really want you? Every time you get into a argument it might turn into, “see, that’s why I didn’t want to get married”. Every time you have a complaint it’s “you’re the one who wanted us to get married”. If you want marriage, and they don’t, the only option is to walk away… but trying to force a man into this decision is most likely not going to end well.

I still have both of my shut up rings, a shut up engagement ring and a shut up wedding ring. They’re nice rings but not worth the 10 years of my life I spent trying to convince a man to do the bare minimum in our relationship, getting married changed nothing and eventually I left him. After my divorce I bought myself a divorce ring, to remind myself never to accept the bare minimum from a man again. But truthfully, I was the problem, not him, at that time in my life I did not love or respect myself enough to believe I deserved better.

I mean: Nothing against a cheap engagement ring. A 5 € ring from a man who loves, respects and values you is worth SO much more than a 5000 € shut-up ring from a person that sees you only as an opportunity. When we talked about marriage, I told my husband that I did not want an expensive engagement ring because I would only wear it until the wedding. He got me a 70 € ring and bought another one for himself because he was so happy to be engaged. There's nothing wrong with that, is it? But you should have the same priorities. I have a short story. I remember when I was with someone for a while. I mentioned that I wanted a promise ring. He tells me to pick one out, and he'd get it, and gave me a price range on the limit. I picked one, but then I saw an alexandrite color changing ring that was perfect. I told him I wanted that one instead, and he got mad, and rushed me to pick one. Ended up getting me the one I didn't want. After that, I ended up buying myself the one I wanted, and kept it as a reminder to never settle for anything.

Back in the day, when our fathers used a shotgun for marriage is what this is like. He is forced to take care of you. Because that first baby is the covenant agreement that you will take care of me and our children. Being with a man along for the ride also hinders him from being a cheater. He is less likely to cheat than a man who will marry you and have 5 other partners along the way. It is them who are broken. We don't teach men to want marriage. Yup that's true statement if i ever seen one. I was dating a man for 4 years, when I sugested beong it he said that he can't because I have mental problems. I had depresive episode that time and he knew that that was his fault. Don't belive them that the day will come, there is always an exscuse.
