Filing SA cases in civil court gets you at least, SOMETHING,for the trauma endured. Often, when you have these cases in criminal court, the victim goes through the entire process and NOTHING is resolved. At the end of the day, there was a higher likelihood for civil SA cases in these particular circumstances to ACTUALLY be successful. Jay-Zs lawyer pointing out the TYPE of case but not categorically denying the accusation? Sticks out to me more than anything. 😞

It's not hard to be in a party like that if the person is interested in you. There's so many stories on kids in California meeting up with these rappers and things. Should she have been there? The burden of proof is lower in civil lawsuits. That’s why it makes more sense to file a civil lawsuit for older sexual assault cases where there will be less evidence.

“Why was a 13yr old at the VMAs” is an AWFUL take. Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Aaliyah, and so so many other kids were thrusted into these adult spaces. The 90s-2000s video vixens and background dancers were often UNDERAGE models. Even in this day and age we got people like ice spice flying out minors to come twerk in her music videos. There are many many (bad) situations in which a child would be at an event like that. “Where were the parents” as if every child has involved and caring parents… smh

@Destiny since you are not from the US you have to understand things were very different in the 90’s. These allegations are from a time when we did not have cell phones. We were not worrying about someone r@ping us, molesting us, or even kidnapping us. Majority of the time family members were the most dangerous people to be alone with. We had free roaming back then. She didn’t take a flight to another city. She was drove to the city. Meaning maybe a friend she knew had a sibling with a car. (Just speculating). She admitted she lied to her family about a sleepover she was supposed to be at. Parents didn’t have to really worry about us (some of us). Most of us had awareness of our surroundings. Plus, some of us knew better than to jump in a car with people we didn’t know. Trust me it wasn’t uncommon back in the 90’a to see kids riding a bus, a train, or taking a taxi. If you had to get to school in New York you got on a bus or took the train . The US was a different place back then.

I don’t know about the statute of limitations on grape in NY however, another reason to pursue a civil suit over a criminal case is that to win a civil suit, the prosecution/plaintiff only has to prove that the defendant was more likely to have broken the law than not in the situation (preponderance of the evidence.) In a criminal case the prosecution has to prove that the defendant is guilty - the event did take place - “beyond a reasonable doubt.” Civil suits are easier to win.
