I couldn't help but notice the US Coast Guard Unit Commendation with Operational Device - I was awarded this as well for participating in the Search and Recovery of the Space Shuttle Challenger 38 years ago on USS Aubrey Fitch FFG-34. I originally had orders to PCU Simpson FFG-56 but those were rescinded and I was sent to Aubrey Fitch instead April 85 - April 88 SC-02 Division Radio Central. Also served on USS Miller FF-1091 and Naval Air Station South Weymouth MA

Esa no es un DESTROYER ...los Destroyers son DDG , en cambio esta es una Frigate FFG de la clase OLIVER HAZZARD PERRY FFG-56 "" SIMPSON "

None are in commission. A number, including Simpson are in the reserve fleet.

Cool. Half my family emigrated from Malta in the 30's before the war, and the bombings and near starvation caused by Hitler. I was on the Rentz FFG46. I cant believe they sank her. Now they have to make do with those crappy Littoral ships. What a waste.
@Lonewolf65654 жыл бұрын
The littorals arent crappy. Anyone that thinks they are is an idiot that doesnt understand what they are or why they exist. The littorals fill a role of ships that was needed. They arent designed for major combat operations and never intended to be used in them. They are light frigates performing light frigate roles. The US has tons of destroyers that outclass the Hazard Perry class and isnt in short supply of combat capable ships. The Simpson and ships of its class were obsolete thirty years ago. Getting rid of them was a good idea in the first place. They are frigates that are the size of a destroyer and cant operate in shallow waters with weapons systems that were so obsolete they removed them from the ships still in service. The littorals are faster and better suited for coastal support operations where the Hazard Perry classes sucked ass. The Burke class are more combat capable than the Hazard Perrys in every way and carry weapons systems so long range they can support the littorals closer to shore.

Exactly sir. 👍👍 this type of ship are still way ahead on its own time, it so sad to let them go just like the Spruance Class Destroyers.

Actually, the Littorals are crappy ships. Major problems with their engineering systems and insufficient crew size to accomplish even basic maintenance of the ships. Unable to defend themselves even in the environment they were designed for. Program has been halted, first 4 to be decommissioned in 2021. New FFG-62 Class to replace them in the near future. Navy never wanted them in the first place.....junk!
