You can use something so simple as a shoe string and tie it around your waist over your cable to keep it out of your arm space. Leave about an inch or two of space for your cable to move around slightly. I do this for my Rift S and it works great. As for your skill, people call you bad because in all fairness you're not too good. It's easy to see in just the way you move your hands. At most you'd be top 70, even then your gamesense needs so much work.

Almost all valve players hold their controllers by the ends, adding about 5-7inches of arm length. As for why all tall players are good, it's because we're older, we understand and learn way faster than the younger players. There's many players who are under 5'8 who are insane. RoVeR is the top 1 brancher, he's 5'4. Top 1 walls is 5'7. You don't need to be tall, you just have to practice.
