Yep, it's the only reason why I watched this clip. That guy's performance of that single line of dialogue, and context in which he says it, is the best acting in the entire movie.

There will be a remake. It will have a diverse racial cast, they will lament about climate change and capitalism, there will be a comment or two about white supremacy, the dwarves in Waterworld will be average height people, and you better enjoy it or else your bank will cancel your account.

It cost so much, almost 300 million dollars, but it still grossed almost 280 million dollars, which is something at that time nonetheless... i think it made it to the top ten list of highest-grossing movies of that year.

@@martincito1977 it is a masterpiece, one of the last movies with a set built by hand, no CGI, green screen or computer effects, they had to cancel filming to wait for the sea to calm or the rain to stop! It flopped in the USA but did great worldwide…. We don’t make movies like this anymore.

I've seen the aftermath of a boat strike on a jetski and neither exploded. Someone died on the jetski, but no explosions.

I watched the movie back in college, and it left a lasting impression on me. It's an incredible film. What stood out to me was how everything seemed broken, yet every machine still functioned perfectly. The movie also had brilliant ideas and stunning visuals.

I wonder exactly what those guys on the jetskis were going to go do exactly. No fuel, no ammo, no food or water or smokes, nowhere to go. Surely he didn't think he still had enough fuel to still reach dry land if he did manage to snag her.

There's a few shots restored in the extended Ulysses cut (among 40 mins of scenes: a lot of good and worthwhile additions that undeniably improve the movie, but just as much puffy padding for the TV cut it was derived from) showing the Deacon pulling the weapon that he brandishes at 6:10 above out of a sheath on the jet ski's, and saying "If I can't have Dry Land, no one will!" The Deacon knew it was all over for them; he just wanted to kill in revenge as his final act.

@@MasterKenfucius Their rope has no give, as it is simply woven tree bark. In Waterworld, ropes are modern and made of woven nylon, which has some elasticity. This elasticity would slow him down over a longer distance, actually improving with length. google "kinetic recovery ropes" they actually take advantage of this exact property.

I think the Smokers destruction at the end was symbolic thing. They symbolized the old, corrupt and greedy world and like that they had to die.

Didn't the Smokers ship have not just Raiders but their families and children too. Mariner didn't just kill all the Raiders he killed the kids as well and it was seen as a good thing.

That oil tanker was over 500 years old. It was bound to sink sooner or later whether the oil would be ignited or not. (if you read online the year of the movie is set in 2500, and what they call “the deluge” occurred in 1995)

such a dramatic ending was unnecessary. I watched the movie for the first time when it was shown in theaters when I was very young. There were children and women on board, and I thought the rowers were innocent people who had been duped. While watching the movie, I didn't like that they were brutally killed like this. but this is an american movie. The movie isn't over without the big bang.
