I actually love this song. Not only is it a cute song about their friendship but I love the way their voices sound together. Out of all 7 members Jimin and v fought the most. They're the same age, Jimin is a tiny bit older but they were both born in the same year. The fight over the dumpling, the other members made them take their fight outside, and Jimin & Tae didn't speak to each other after the incident for a little bit. 1 says it was a few days, the other said it was for 2 weeks, and finally they went out and got drinks together. If you look at jimin's pinky next to Tae's, there's a huge difference. Tae's is long and slender, and is about 2x as long as jimin's pinky 😂 In bts' early days fans and BTS called Tae an "alien" it's what they call a 4D personality, 4d people see the world through a slightly different lens. Not better or worse rly just they think about things differently than the majority, & that doesn't mean 4d personalities are stupid, just different. Tae never liked this moniker I think it hurt his feelings, some people made like "dumb blonde" type jokes and ofc that wouldn't make anyone feel good you know? So only Jimin can call him alien. They met as trainees, at 16, and then went to high school together after coming from different areas of Korea. Jimin was more shy, while Tae got along with everyone and made friends easily. So Tae helped Jimin out and introduced him to Tae's friends. Ty for reacting to this, no one ever does, at least it's hard to find people who have reacted to it. 💜 Sry if I didn't explain this properly, I just woke up after only getting a couple hours of sleep 😂

@@DestructiveMediaYT The dumpling incident is actually a little complicated. Taehyung was at that time filming for Hwarang so he was very exhausted and hadn't esaten that day. They were gifted the dumplings before doing their choreo training. Taehyung wanted to eat immideatly but disciplined Jimin saw them kind of as a reward for training so he wanted to eat after. That is when they faught. The others threw them out to solve it outside. Which they didn't. They refused to talk to each other. Yoongi went with Jimin drinking. So drunk Jimin met Tae at 4 o'clock (?) in the park and told him that them fighting wasn't right. That his friendship was more important. Tae said in that unit-interview that he filmed Jimin and still has that clip much to the surprise of Jimin. The two of them fought the most with each other as their way of thinnking is so different. But they haven't fought in years now. When Jimin asked Namjoon for help writing that song - he was kind of surprised that his melody was chosen to be turned into a song - Namjoon couldn't write one word because the relationship between the two is that strange and the words not adequat for Namjoon to find. Personally I think that "Friends" is actually the most "personal" song as it holds their history instead of the moving of parts of their inside feelings/thoughts that the rest of the album has. Less abstract maybe. With lettle personal notes like Taehyung hated to be called "alien" as that made it sound like he was less human and Jimin struggeling with being the smallest/slightest in built and be called cute. The dreamcatcher is also one of the stories. Taehyung had a nightmare and asked Jimin for help. But Jimin was sleep-drunk and threw him out as he had slept and was tired. but the next day Jimin felt guilty about that and bought the dreamcatcher - which Tae doesn't even believe in and was kind of puzzled by. They do call each other soulmate and sometimes the other members call them that. The first time was from a questionair of afan with multiple choice. On the question what jimin is to hi Tae just made his X at soulmate without waiting. jimin was a bit more unsure and first made a cross at family (?) and than said that that is not enough and made one at friends (?) and soulmate. He was kind shily happy when he was told what Tae had done. Thank you both! 💜💜

Also, uin their trainers days Tae missed his family too much that he cried on the bathroom at night, Jimin discovered him and he stayed with Tae and cry himself the comforted him. Tae said how much this meaning to him.

All of these are pretty much what I’ve read. One that I’ve heard V speak of is that he was born in the last minutes of ‘95 so Jimin wouldn’t be alone. 💕

The pinky lyric is a reference to Jimin's pinky finger(Jimin has very small hands in the group so even his pinky is the smallest), which, according to V, hasn't grown ever since their debut, so that lyric would translated to "Just like how your pinky finger hasn't changed, also don't change"

“Like your pinky” is referring to Jimin’s unusually short pinkie finger; “alien” is what the members called V when he was younger because he was a bit strange and often had his own language. Jimin and V are around the same age and they would attend high school together when they were trainees. The “dumpling incident” is that Jimin and V fought when it came to decide when to eat their meal of dumplings. V, who was extremely hungry, wanted to eat during practice; Jimin after practice. Their fight got so intense that the other members kicked them out into the hall. It took days for them to make up.

Listening to this song as a farewell for a while for two boys who have been together for more than 7 years and without knowing what the future would hold for them but wanting to maintain that unique friendship. ♦️JIMIN, not only wrote the lyrics for, his hugely successful song "Friends", about Tae & his relationship, but also composed the melody for, as well as helped produce. Jimin also said that he continually texted Tae throughout the writing process just to make sure Tae's parts, his lyrics would meet with Tae's approval, as well as getting input from Tae!! Jimin also gave Tae equal amount of verses, even giving certain notes to Tae, that Tae himself said he had difficulty in singing at first, but even after hearing from the other producers involved that Tae was having difficulty, he decided to keep them in, knowing & having faith in Tae's abilities. Sure enough, Tae said that he pushed through, achieving magnificently, those more difficult notes, just like Jimin knew he could. Jimin has always been Tae's biggest supporter. Jimin's song 'Friends' is also now one of the songs chosen to be & now in the Marvel movie ''The Eternals'. Jimin's photo can even be seen in one scene amongst other photos hanging up on a wall in one scene from the movie.

"Friend 친구" in korea can only refers to people born in the same year. otherwise, no matter how close you are, you can only be "hyung/oppa (big brother) donseng (little brother or sister)," "unnie/noona (big sister)donseng (little brother or sister," or "seonbae (senior)hoobae(junior)" so for example, no matter how close BTS members are, Jimin can not call RM friend, always hyung, even they are only one year apart. That is also why although Suga is only three month born later than Jin, he still needs to call Jin hyung.

The translation for chingu (which is also the original song titel) is closer to same-age friends than just friends. The -hyung and -issi is when they are formal but they don't always use that. Someone observed that Jimin treats the other members and is treated by them as chingu quiet often (not always and not so much in the beginning but later). The difference comes from the class-system that has to do with the year you are born - but also your expertise and family.

This is super adorable, honestly, I love their friendship and bond. (We affectionately call them “vmin” by the way!) Like you said it’s even more meaningful because they had to work for it and actively chose to be friends to where they now call each other soulmates. It’s also beautiful to see platonic love celebrated like this, where two men can be on stage holding hands singing a love song to each other and it isn’t seen as weird or cringy. I think it fits perfectly in the ego part of the album, because your ego is everything about your identity that you accept fully, and friends/relationships are a huge part in forming a person’s life and identity.

The soulmates, I can't imagine what's it is like to have your high school friend as your band mate. They're each other pillars of support, whenever one of them is down the other pick him up, even in school another student who became famous shared that Tae was very protective of Jimin when he thought they were bullying him, and whenever Tae remembers his late grandparents and break down I always trust Jimin would be there for him. Their fights are so funny 🤣 they are always pickering but extremely funny

The other way around. Jimin passed the audition moved to Seoul and into the dorm and than was send to the same school as Taehyung. same year different class. The friendship may have been immideat thanks to being chingu (and Tae being Tae) but they were both Big Hit trainees and in the same dorm before they went to the same school.

Namjoon and the last to cut trainee were at another school and JK was at SOPA. We know that Tae was asked after Jimin and debuting him with the group and that he was all for it. What we don't know is if that made a difference.

Yup these two wrote two whole emotional songs about a huge screaming fight over dumplings 😂😂. BTS takes food very seriously like one of the only fights between JK and Hobi was over a banana. But these two are the self declared soulmates who fight viciously but also can’t bear to ever be separated. It’s so wholesome and the kind of friendship we adore them for. Every word of this is true the dream catcher is that on a trip Tae had a bad nightmare so went to sleep with Jimin who was too tired yo understand and thought he was being a pain so kicked him out but felt so bad the next day he got Tae a special dreamcatcher he’s kept even today. This song was released in Map Of The Soul:7. Originally it would be three albums: MOTS: Persona, MOTS: Shadow, and MOTS: Ego. But after Persona came the pandemic so they modified their albums and mixed Shadow and Ego in MOTS: 7 also for their 7th anniversary. This 7th year is meaningful for them, most Kpop groups dissolve or have never come back is their 7th year. This was an opportunity for select special and personal songs like Friends. There is a song made by Tae but we haven't hear it because Tae said the producers told him it wasn't appropriate to be released to the public, so Friends is very special.

Jimin had a difficult time as he can into a group already established and only had 6 months vs 2 or 3 years for other members. He also had no vocal training. V helped him both during school and training. They have always been there for each other in good and bad times.

I think no one has explained about the dreamcatcher reference yet so I'll take the initiation. Tae had a period where he's always having nightmares. Jimin bought him a dreamcatcher which stayed with him for long, thus, the seven-year history. It is such a simple gesture and story but it shows so much on how they care about each other. Jimin taking the sweet move to buy a dreamcatcher for Tae, and Tae being thankful from the bottom of his heart shown by how he treasured the small gift. There's no better term to describe VMIN other than the word 'soulmates'.

The Dumpling Incident occurred because TaeTae was very hungry because he was juggling a very tight schedule with BTS practice and he was also shooting for a K-drama Series called Hwarang with 20 episodes as Han Sung. This was TaeTae's 1st time acting and this is where he met his good friends Park Seo-Joon and Park Hyung-sik and they formed a group called Wooga Squad along with Peakboy and Choi Woo-shik. Well TaeTae called ahead and asked his BTS manager to order him some dumplings and the dumplings was there waiting for him when he got to BTS practice. I believe he had a couple of bites and Jimin told him that he could eat after they practiced and since TaeTae had already started eating and was very hungry because he just came from the Hwarang set he wanted to finish before practice. They got into heated argument and was told to take it outside. They ended up hanging out after a couple of days and tried to explain their point of view and ended up arguing again because each side felt the other side was being insensitive. I can't remember, but I think they did not talk to each other for a couple of weeks, but they ended up reconciling and said the incident made their friendship stronger. This song was written by Jimin after the "Dumpling Incident" and as you can see Jimin and TaeTae is singing it. The song I believe was featured in the Marvel's Eternal soundtrack. TaeTae and Jimin were the same age and always very close. I think when you are very close to someone and you are around each other the most, you sometimes rub each other the wrong way. However, with love, maturity, understanding and patience you learn to work through arguments and conflict quickly.

i really recommend listening to Taehyung's song that he composed who featured RM called 4 o' clock, this song is about Jimin after Taehyung and Jimin had a fight about dumplings and Tae was quite upset so he went to the park at night around 4 o' clock hence the name of the song. Tae then starting writing the lyrics to the song about jimin and so forth. They have mention this a few times and explained the context of 4 o' clock and Friends in some videos and live shows. Jimin and Taehyung have developed a strong friendship as school friends often do. They were 16 or 17 when they first met and like friends of that age do they fell out from time to time. There wasn’t a struggle to get along. The dumpling incident occurred because Tae was filming, ‘Hwarang’ the K-Drama he was recording in 2016. He was ravenous after a day on set and arranged for his manager to have dumplings, (mandoo) for him to eat on arrival but he was stuck in traffic and really didn’t have time to eat before the start of practice. Jimin said the others hadn’t eaten either and he should wait. He didn’t so they argued and fell out. Yesss their voices together are so good I love it jahsjshsjsh they call each other soulmates since the beginning, they have the same age so they could be more open and sincere with each other when they first meet (at least that's what I heard since in Korea age difference it's super important and really changes how people treat others). I would like to point out how they didn't call each other friends in the lyrics and that's why I have a theory they wanted the song to be named soulmates but couldn't 😂 I'm joking obvs Tks for your reactions, keep being honest with your opinions

There are many compilation videos about v and Jimin (often called vmin) and how they are soulmates if you do more personality videos and also videos about tae and his unique way of seeing things and his way of speaking (usually called taetae language) They're so adorable and this song is so comforting. Also, as others said 4'oclock by v and RM is a song V wanted to create about their fight and making up. I really love it, it may not be your vibe but you should give it a listen if you ever get a chance

The story is about them fighting... Tae came back from the drama set (Hwarang) very tired and hungary. Jimin and Tae were rehearsing but Tae wanted to eat the dumplings... Jimin got mad because he also was tired. They had a falling out for a long time. JK invited Jimin out for drinks and had Tae there. They apologized and drank.. Tae wrote 4 0'clock later that night/day and Jimin wrote this song. It was in the opening of Disney Marvel movie. To be honest this is not one of my favorite songs. But I think it's more than a song between two friends. They knew each other before debut. V apparently defended Jimin who was bullied in school cause of his Busan accent. When they were going thru tough times after debut they emotionally supported each other too. So it's a song nobody will understand except for them. But it's so beautiful cause I don't really see any other group singing about a deep friendship. The dumpling incident is famous among the ARMYs.

ok i went through the comments on this video and seems we're all assuming you're familiar with honorifics in Korea, but I dunno if that's the case? they 'calculate' age differently (they consider the 9 months inside the belly like a year so you're born 1 year old) and this is so relevant to Koreans since it changes the way they speak to one another. Tae and Jiminie were both born in 1995, they're the 'same age' so they don't need to use honorifics when talking to e/o (we've seen Tae on video calling Jimin hyung though but not recently, they were both 18 aprox.!). The honorifics change suffix? not sure how to explain it in English, I speak in Spanish, but to sum it up chingu (friends) can be used with people born in the same year or ppl you're extremely close to though I dunno how common this is (we've seen Bangtan members calling e/o chingu regardless of their age). Since there's no honorifics required to communicate they're a bit more free to speak their minds. Tae and Jiminie are VERY different from e/o and both have very strong personalities however they'd banter or fight over silly stuff!
