I’m happy that this show really touches on mental health. Focusing on mental health and being open about your feelings with your emotions. Lil Dicky is literally bringing up topics that aren’t talked about in this scene and need to be talked about. We see all these rappers either spiral mentally or just show their true colors. It’s literally putting the saying “the pen is mightier than the sword.” Showing your emotions. Instead of bottling them inside I’m sure was a huge step for GaTa especially being a black man in an industry that is rigged against you to fail systematically compared to Lil Dicky. Ya know, these issues aren’t talked about in this community. It’s the reason why older rappers have this disdain for rappers like GaTa, Lil Nas x, Lil Dicky, Even Eminem. He was told to shut up about his emotions. To not write about it anymore cause he “whines too much.” But Eminem I feel like and this is just an opinion. But I feel like he influenced this movement and this generation. Without even realizing it when he released recovery. He still to this day talks about his addictions. Talks about how hard it is to stay clean when the whole world is looking at you to be something you aren’t. No wonder celebrities go ghost for a few years. They need a break. Mentally. Think about it, you write about your life after you recover. How things could get better, how things could be worse. And then you are told. It wasn’t enough. It was lacking in “nostalgia” he was told to go back to the old him. The “persona” they complained about in the first place is now being told to be returned. Like he has been the media’s chew toy since he has started. He was ripped to shreds by the media cause he let his heart out. I would go away for a while too if that’s how that was looked at. If people were gonna mock me for letting out what I had to say. Ima withdrawal myself from that. The way this industry treats its entertainers and music artists is beyond me. How can you criticize someone for change and then complain when they actually change and do something about their past actions. Influencing a new way and fixing the mess they made with their platform. Eminem and Lil Dicky are one of the few white rappers who use their platform to support, smaller artist, who don’t have the same opportunities they do based on the way society treats them. Eminem building that restaurant not too far from where he grew up as away of giving back to the community is a good step to change. Feeding hungry people, for cheap prices. Cause he grew up wondering if he was gonna eat that night. It’s a 10 dollar thing of spaghetti someone can easily buy after a long day of work and they don’t want a burger so they stop by his restaurant. The sandwiches are around anything from 11-15 bucks Considering where it’s located, at the heart of the city, in Detroit, one of the biggest cities in the US. That’s cheap as fuck. He could have tripled that price just cause of his name. But he didn’t. He choose to not charge people out the ass for good food cause he knows it’s hard to find in downtown Detroit. That’s what I love to see. All rappers should be doing shit like that, not for clout or cause it gets you in good with the media. But because, it makes you feel good as a person and that you want to better the wrongs you’ve made. Eminem knows he has participated in harmful behavior and encouraged that to a younger audience that was young and impressionable. When he first started out, he didn’t see the impact his voice has on the WORLD! I’m so happy that people are talking about these issues cause for men in this industry. It’s taught that you gotta be hard to be a rapper. But these guys are proof of that. You don’t gotta be hard to be a rapper. You don’t gotta come from the hood be a good rapper. Shit I know of people who still to this day think that white people can’t rap… or shouldn’t rap.. because it’s not apart of their “culture.” These men are the culture. They are the movements that help drive our society into doing better. To push topics that need to be talked about. The mental health, the homophobia, the rape culture involved, the pedophilia, global warming, the missing people at the boarders. And many more issues and we are worried about Nicki Minaj’s opinion on the vaccine. Like come on people. Stay woke. (Sorry that turned into an Eminem rant a bit. I I just love seeing older rappers give back to the community. Taking a step in the right direction.)
