facts, I feel like it really depends on your hair texture, I have 4c++ hair, started with comb coils... they never once unraveled and were budding after 3 weeks, but I still feel like two strand twists are overall easier for most people and don't look as awkward.

Just through observation and my experience. I think if you have 4C hair you can use either method and it will loc pretty fast. However with two strand twist due to it not being our "natural" pattern such as comb coils (when we wet our hair it spirals) the hair would tangle more to try to find it's natural form (spiral). My mom started with comb coils and her locs are slimmer and more uniform. Most other people I know started with two strand twist and their locs are thicker and more unique. After all my research two strands was the method for me. Although the first 4 months was me retwisting the ends because they would unravel during washes and create to spirals lol it has gotten a lot better and I love the way they are turning out.

I wanted to start with coils but my hair would not stay in that style when I was ready to loc up. I’m over a year in now and went ahead with two strand twist, not once did they unravel on me. My hair type is like 4b in the front 4c in the back, and I been free forming. I think so far I’ve only had 3 retwist that I did myself. My hair locked quick in the 1st few weeks you could see budding. I think I only have like 54 locs and they’re pretty thick some of them are kind of flat, but I’m loving it. I really wanted to free form all the way and let my locs come in how they want, but I was too impatient.

I haven’t had any issues with unraveling but omggggg the marrying....the frizz....the hairs escaping the coil/loc 🥴 I mean we’re good and all but it’s like dang y’all ➰👀chill I also have lots of lumps and bumps, which is funny cuz I don’t style at all. It’s just the way they feel like developing with their unruly selves 💅🏾👀 so I let them do them I had a couple barrel twist do’s after my first two loctician retwists and like you said my hair looked so straggly afterwards...meh Plus I agree that I feel like it slowed my process some, even if styling then did help to keep it organized during lockdown, can’t get a retwist phases

I think your hair looks more like locs with the coils before it does with twists. It really doesn’t matter, though. Water will actually help your hair to loc faster actually. When you wash your hair wash your hair in a stocking cap to keep them from unraveling. Unraveling is not uncommon your hair has to be trained to stay that position it takes a minute for your hair to become trained I’m 5 months in.

Use a mist spray bottle to wet it lightly, not too much, and yeah use a stocking cap if you wash. Retwisting the front and retwisting too often may have negative effects, just gotta leave it alone to do its thing - 8 weeks isn’t really long enough to see significant loc’ing, I don’t think

Have you started with twists or comb coils? I know a lot of people with short starter locs that wore wigs outside of the house until they were long enough to do styles. @chocobrigade4 жыл бұрын
I started with instant locs (no extensions) and I still feel like I made a mistake. But i realize that the reason I feel this was is because of the pressure that loc channels put of the 100% pure loc journey, with starting from the ground up with our locs, not using gels to retwist, and no extensions. This pressure makes us feel bad about our real life choices, which is an altogether subtle form of peer pressure, like the popular kids table at school. Don’t stress over your decisions because it’s not like something else. If it’s truly and deeply bothering you, do what you want! But don’t stress because what you did isn’t organic, because who said this journey would be your only journey for the rest of your life?
