This video series will cover every bolt, every screw and every wire, shown in crystal clear HD video clarity, of what is required to remove, tear down, completely rebuild and re-install a Subaru EJ25 2.5 liter engine in a 2009 Subaru Forester. The end result will include a final test drive proving success of the entire process as demonstrated throughout this series.
This will be a multi-chapter video, initially released in as many as 20 parts as completed through the editing post-production process.
We hope you find this video uniquely useful and priceless in it's extraordinary detail and real-world, plain-English explanations.

Just did the timing belt on my 2009 non-turbo Impreza. I loved the bit about retrofitting the tensioner pulley bracket from older EJ-251 motors for the stretch fit A/C compressor belt... great hack!

to anyone who also ripped the knock sensor plug off there is a way to repair that problem. looking into the female plug there is a withe piece of plastic you got to pull gently 4mm(2/8inc) out then you are able to push down two grey lever in the plug with each release a pin. after releasing the pins you solder them to the wires and put back the pins into the plug

If you're watching this to learn how to remove your turbo engine you don't need to remove the intake in the car. Run a seat belt as a strap around the intake and use that to attach to the chain on the hoist and pull the engine with the intake on. That's what we always did at my dealership

Anybody else check their phone at 1:12:54? Lol at the earth shaking when the bolt cracked loose... I felt it over here I tell you... Keep up the great work Mike and Carey. I as well would love to see more a lot! More please!! I seriously wish I could pick this guy's brain... what engine is compatible with what transmission? What engine is compatible with what car? What parts are interchangeable?? Of course changing stuff around like that you would have to swap out some sensors and components maybe the manifold(pending on your application), but how many different years makes and models will just bolt straight up without having to do wiring or possibly moving engine mounts and/or subframe? There should be a video of Mike just talkin about everything he knows that comes to Subies. His wisdom should be spread like a wild fire. Carey none of this would have been possible if it wouldn't be for your great video footage, Mike you are the main! man! Can't wait to watch the rest and more!

Awesome video but was just curious, when I took out the air box from my 2011 Forester Turbo I noticed a connector underneath the power steering pump reservoir. Does it go connected to anything? On this video when you took out the power steering pump, you can see it just there. At the 26:08 minutes of video you see the connector branch off the cable that goes into the fender to the left of the power steering reservoir.

Great video, though I am a little surprised you have to take off the intake manifold and a whole heap of other parts to remove the engine. And my understanding of the air pump is it just reduced emissions during startup

That is my car. Or just like it. Question, on the bottom of the engine near the front edge are two plugs with what looks like a bit of Antifreeze leaking. This is my first Subaru, Are these plugs with O-rings? Can they be removed and fixed without losing all the coolant?

The whispered “there is a god” just killed me lol. Although, I ripped the head off the lower outside turbo>down pipe bolt, where there should have been a stud but my eBay turbo had a hole and I used a bolt. Not looking forward to dealing with that when I pull the engine out of my 05 OBXT. Probably have to remove it with the down pipe and scrap it all and get a new down pipe with my new BNR, and therefore an accessport. Little $2k addition to my project :(

As much as I respect Mike, PLEASE do not work underneath a car in the way Mike did without the rear wheels being chocked in place, it's far too dangerous otherwise. The car could roll backwards off of the stands and crush the mechanic. It has happened.
